Built in 1938, Rus 'n Bietjie is one of the last old L'Agulhas homes. It has a true fisherman cottage feel about it and is situated only 30 m from the ocean. It is near the lovely and historical "Soldiers Pool" in the Mount Pleasant area.
Rus 'n Bietjie is a rustic little home with painted cement floors. Due to it's age, the house has quite some character as some of the door frames are from old boats and thus quite low. There are three double bedrooms - one room with a double bed and the others with single beds. The bathroom has a toilet, washbasin and bath and shower.
The kitchen is fully equipped with a four-plate stove and oven, a microwave, fridge-freezer combination, a toaster and all the utensils you will need. Tea and coffee with rusks is provided, as well as washing liquid. The kitchen also has lovely sea views. The sitting room and dining room have a small library and TV, and if you bring you own decoder, you can have DStv as there is a dish connected. we also have wifi available.
The most popular area is probably the large under cover veranda and braai area overlooking the ocean. Not only does one see the ships going to and from Cape Town, but whales and dolphins are often seen from here. The hammock on the veranda adds some comfort to your sea experience. The house is fully enclosed and pet friendly.
"Loved the sound of the sea so close by & the view of the rocks, waves & sea - couldn't have a better location"
"As aboveEnjoyed the bath but a shower would be great"
"Had everything we needed"
"Realy loved the old fishermans cottage. If you expect any luxury in terms of modern showers etc. This is not the place for you .For me the cottage had everything I need . The quietness and being able to look at the sea while you are still lying in bed is priceless . Will definitely go back again . Thank you Anne -Marie for the week I could rest in your home . Hannes ."
"Rus 'n Bietjie is a rustic Fisherman's Cottage - as such, the accommodation/facilities/amenities were/are in keeping with that theme. It was PERFECT for us & our dogs - we were so glad to find this accommodation as it is walled to keep our dogs safe & which keeps children safe too. Everything that is provided is ample - you have fridge/freezer, microwave, kettle, stove, crockery, cutlery, bedding & bath towels provided, 3 bedrooms, separate bathroom, separate kitchen, separate lounge, even an electric washing machine & iron etc. I guess you'd just need to bring your beach towels, food & drink, & your DSTV decoder if you want that - though there are TV programmes to watch. We stayed the weekend of Mother's Day 2018 (being Friday 11.5.18 to Sunday 13.5.18). The inside toilet is TOO LOW for adults especially if you are elderly (like us) or have back/leg problems (like me), but I'm told there is also an outside toilet which has a higher toilet. Putting in a shower would be a good idea & the owner informs me that this is what she intends to do, though it is imperative to her that the 'rustic' theme of the cottage is kept in mind. We can no longer bath (due to age/back/legs & can only shower), but luckily our son lives in Agulhas so we could shower at his house. The present inside bathroom has a low toilet, bath & basin & the gas geyser works excellently with hot water in the kitchen as well . I recommended to the owner that now & again she get the garden service in to clean out the garden as it is necessary. Otherwise, we are very glad to have found this accommodation & will definitely book it again. Anna-Marie, the owner, is a very friendly lady & kindly gave us a Rus 'n Bietjie white cap as a gift - thank you, Anna-Marie. So if you'd like your holiday accommodation to be very close to the sea for the view & to hear the waves & you have children or dogs that require a secure area, & if you're happy with a 'rustic' theme, then I highly recommend Rus 'n Bietjie. I think it is value for money. You will have many memorable occasions on the stoep (verandah) especially if you enjoy a braai - lovely big braai place undercover on the stoep (verandah). Therefore, in keeping with the rustic accommodation offered, I give Rus 'n Bietjie 5 Stars overall. See you again some time, Anna-Marie, & thank you. Kind regards, Lindsay & Brian Jenions, Albertinia, 16th April 2018"
"So enjoyed Rus 'n Bietjie. Relaxed, casual, holiday home perfectly located and pet frinedly."
"Goed genoeg om oor te slaap"
"We had a great time at Rus 'n Bietjie. The house has everything you need and we loved the stoop with the beautiful view over the sea. A big thank you to the owners, Anna-Marie and Gert who drove al the way from Struisbaai to Caledon to pick us up when our car broke down. And then they even gave us their car until ours was repaired. You are awesome! We will definitely be back!! xx"
"We had a great vacation. Our main criteria was a pet friendly place near the seaside. The location and stunning views are an absolute bonus. Being able to sit and watch the waves from the stoep is ideal to relax and unwind. We just missed having a shower but we understand that the historical essence of the old fisherman's cottage needs to be maintained."
"If you want pet friendly, close to the beach accommodation with a beautiful view Rus 'n Bietjie is the place to go. Unfortunately the house is very basic and the decor needs a serious boost defenitely not what I am used to!"
"Eenvoudig, maar tog 'n heerlike "tuisgevoel". Heerlik gerus, gebraai, oor die see gestaar, visgevang, ens. Sal beslis weer hier gaan uitspan!"
"this must be the grubbiest little house in south africa and do not even talk about the bathroom"
"You are to make sure you know what you are letting yourself in for. It certainly is not the generally accepted standard of holiday accommodation."
