There are several activities such as milking the cows, feeding the pigs to bottle-feeding the lambs in the lambing season. Horse rides are available daily and guests can go rock climbing, hiking, mountain biking, swimming and birdwatching. Several hiking routes are available and featuring incredible natural formations of the area which include Disa Pool, Kromriver Cave, Stadsaal Caves, Truitjieskraal, Maltese Cross, Wolfberg Cracks & Arch and plenty more.
For those who love astronomy, the Cederberg Observatory is open to the public on Saturdays, weather permitting. The evening entails a short slide show and telescope viewing afterward.
"We loved staying there, beautiful, clean camp sites. Great restaurant and great service."
"Because noise travels between sites easily, no music whatsoever should be allowed and if people do play it, management should stop them"
"A beautiful place! It is perfectly equipt for the cold."
"This is a special part of the world - lovely views, walks and situation. Restaurant is great and the people who run the place are very friendly and helpful.A couple of suggestions aimed at further improvement :Make clear on booking WHICH unit you are in - there are "old/basic" and new units and it is not clear what the pricing difference is on these. We landed up in a "basic" unit and although it was fairly comfortable - we did feel a little "cheated" that we weren't given a choice!Improve on signage and checkin - coming from Cape Town on a Friday afternoon, we only arrived after dark and we would never have found our way if we had not bumped into the owner as he was leaving. Would never have looked for the "map" with keys either! When we did set off to find the cottage, it took us a while because there is no signage and we had to go to every cottage along the way until we found the ones with corresponding names."
"The staff at Kromriver were amazing very forthcoming and friendly, on our first day we experienced minor car problems and after visiting reception for advice Samantha had arranged assistance to help us. They were always willing to give you information etc. Our little cottage was very clean and most comfortable. There is so much to soak up. The restaurant was great we had a generous breakfast and a delicious vegetarian wrap for lunch. Even though the roads are quite challenging in some places as we were travelling in a little sedan we were able to see and that which we set out to do. We will certainly return to Kromriver"
"Die toilet en stort by ons eie kampplekkie was mooi skoon en daar was lekker warm water!"
"<div>The campsite was large and private ablutions were great. Cold drinks can be bought from the shop.</div><div><br /></div><div>But if you are looking for a secluded, private campsite, this is NOT it. It also seems unnecessarily expensive.</div>"
"<div>I enjoyed the weekend I spent at Kromrivier. Simple and good accomodation but more important the people who welcome you who are very kind, friendly and give you good advices.</div><div>Good address.</div>"
"Beautiful setting, basic accommodation, good food at the restaurant."
"Friendly and helpful staff! Clean and large cabins! Very nice on the farm! The mountains are stunning and lots of climbing to do! The best route to go there is via Ceres! The other roads are terrible!"
"Stayed 3 nights in chalet at this laid-back place. Hiking, horse-riding, rocks & caves. Good people. Basic but sufficient amenities. Dankie! Sal weer gaan.Marius en SusanKaapstad"
"We come here once or twice a year at different seasons and have never been disappointed. The owners and staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Great advice given about hikes and general things to do. We normally spend a day hiking up to Maltese Cross or Wolfberg Cracks in the morning, then to Disa Pools in the afternoon. This is quite strenuous but very rewarding. Leads to a quiet evening overlooking their dam covered with lilies. We will be back."
"The road down to the valley where the estate is situated was horrible. No chans to meet another vehicle and steep drop beside the road. Luckily we could go back taking a farm road (longer but more safe)."
"A lovely quiet basic cottage and amenities in lovely surrounds far off the beaten track. Tough drive following snow and rain. Rinda gave good advice on interesting things to see in the area."
"A warm welcome, comfortable accommodation and the most exquisite surroundings, an evening with a full moon added to our enjoyment."
