Addo Reach & Hein's Cottage

Alicedale, a sleepy Hamlet in the heart of 1820 Settler country, is a safe, secure and malariafree environment
with superb game viewing opportunities. Addo Elephant Park and the Shamwari, Pumba and Schotia Parks (to
name a few) are within easy driving distance, on excellent roads. The historic and picturesque towns of
Grahamstown, Salem and Sidbury are also within easy driving distance, and the renowned Grahamstown Festival
in June and July of each year, with the cream of local and international arts, crafts and theatre, is but 52 km away. Due to COVID this amazing gift has not been available, and we can but hope this too soon passes, and we'll get to enjoy all that the Festival has offered for so many years.

The more energetic (we enjoy a very low almost nonexistent crime rate) will find the mountain bike, walking,
and running trails both challenging and rewarding.

For the time being, and devastatingly so, the Bushman Sands Golf Resort boasting an 18hole Gary
Player Golf Course - is closed, for reasons both political and weather!!!! but WATCH THIS SPACE, for much work is being done to restore this to its former glory, and, dare we say, with even more to offer.

ADDO REACH is the ideal place to find peace and quiet, away from the madding crowd.

In short, whether you want to cycle, walk, run, play golf - not quite at the moment :-(, sleep late, read books, paint, write, listen to the early morning birdsong or enjoy a glass of wine or two on the patio, your privacy and comfort is assured.

The name ADDO REACH is given to the Main House, and if friends are spending time together, a pathway of
some 20 metres leads you to the door of HEINS COTTAGE.

Under the Rooms tab, youll find a full description of the Main House where we have three comfortable and
wellappointed rooms, as well as what we call the Loft Library. These rooms have independent access, so there
are no curfews as far as coming home is concerned you just let yourself in!! Heins Cottage (named after the
splendid young man who with great love and patience helped us turn a rather dilapidated garage into what we
believe is a place of sanctuary), is given full description under the Rooms tab too.

Rates are based on up to 3 people sharing in Hein's Cottage, and 2 people sharing in the other rooms. Included in the rate is a full room service each day of your stay drying/replacing towels, replenishing the complimentary toiletries, tea, coffee, muffins. This happens, with the help of cheerful and reliable staff, around 9.30 each
morning, but if you need a lie in, we can make a plan!! A laundry service is available too (at your own risk) but at
an extra cost,

The rate also includes complimentary bottled water, tea, coffee, biscuits, and hospitality toiletries, replenished
where necessary on each day of your stay.

As well as the TV facility in the Loft Library, Hein's Cottage enjoys the full DSTV package as does The Man Cave where you are welcome to join us, specially for those unmissable sports events!

Catering If you dont feel like cooking, meals are available on request at reservation. We offer a full 'English'
breakfast at R90.00 per person and a 2course dinner at R250.00 per person, and would talk about dietary
preferences once your reservation is confirmed. Nothing fancy youll understand, and it will often be in the
company of neighbours who share thoughts, ideas, and good conversation. Braai packs, wood and bread can be
rustled up too if you prefer to do your own braai on one of the patios. Louis' Pub and Grub is usually open on
Fridays - though not guaranteed, but there you enjoy excellent pizzas and splendid atmosphere.

  • "Wonderful experience"

    12 July 2011

"Eli, John and Gran are such nice, friendly people that, even if the cottage was a pondokkie, it would have been worth staying there. The cottage was in fact extremely comfortable and the service was excellent! While staying there, it is well worth it to visit the local pub, Louis', for a drink or two and a delicious steak."
