"A beautiful building, perfectly restored. Like going back to 1900.friendly owner who thinks along. Recommended."
"Conville is really a must stay for travellers from Gauteng on their way to East London. A wonderful old house with the most amazing antique furniture, the friendliest dogs and an amazing host, Linda. It is just outside of town, on the river, so very quiet and secluded. The breakfast the next morning was delicious! Great coffee, lovely scrambled eggs en the best sausage Ive tasted in a long time. We will never sleep anywhere else when we pass this way again."
"At first I was very impressed by the other reviews of previous guests to Conville Guest Farm. However, on our arrival we found the Family Room <span style="text-decoration: underline;">extremely</span> cold. There were only 2 small fan heaters - one in each room, and the one in the main bedroom did not even have an adapter so that we could connect it to the power outlet. We also found loose hanging fittings, falling out of the walls - seems to be some kinds of electrical fittings - just dangling by the wires. We also had our grandson of nearly 2 years old with us - and in the bathroom we found medication in the one cupboard and a bottle of turpentine in the other cupboard - thus easily accessible by our grandson!!! The carpets in the rooms where also <span style="text-decoration: underline;">extremely</span> dirty, and as they were loose carpets we found that it seems that it also has not been cleaned in ages underneath them - as our grandson picked one up. Behind and next to all cupboards were pushed in broken picture frames and other odds. Needless to say: we immediately left, not even thinking twice about all the money we were loosing - as we've already paid in full up front. We will never return here, and we will also never recommend this place to anyone ever! Even the one star I am giving it is way too much - would prefer to have been able to give it a negative 5 stars.<br />"
"<p>Amazing old house which has pretty much been kept as it would have been all those years ago. It has been in the family for some time now. </p><p>You are really staying in the family's house with separate entrances to the rooms. That, of course comes with all the family pets and chatting to the owners too. Listening to Anthony tell me a quick history of the house and the current drought struggles was interesting. </p><p>We felt like we could have a family game of soccer on the lawn with no problem at all - the location is really beautiful. </p><p>We had a delicious breakfast at the house. </p><p>The house does need some basic maintenance but that certainly won't detract from your stay. </p><p>Aliwal North has a couple of places to eat so all in all a good place to stay over. </p>"
"Beautiful old farmhouse, in a tranquil setting, felt like we were transported back a hundred years. Hosts were very friendly and breakfast was good. Overnighted but would have loved to have had extra time to explore some more."
"What a beautiful home to spend the night in!! I spent some time in the early evening just watching the sun setting, with the three family dogs keeping me company. This house has been lovingly preserved, and it felt as though I had stepped back in time. Lovely to have a friendly host, who personally prepared our breakfast. I would certainly recommend Conville to anyone either passing through Aliwal North, or intending to spend some time investigating this interesting little town."
"My husband and I had the pleasure to spend some time at this little piece of paradise. I fell in love with the home and the hospitality offered by the owners. Some parts of this exquisite home need some repair but as a whole, our experience was absolutely wonderful."
"Beautiful old house with big, cleanrooms. Breakfast was good! Affordable for a family of five."
"We were made very welcome in this historic home. A beautiful tranquil setting surrounded by lush well tended garden. The accommodation was rustic and comfortable. Adequate breakfast was served to us before our departure. Our hostess was very caring in helping one of our party to attend to a wound which she got in a horse riding accident."
"An old farm-house and you are made to feel part of the comings and going. Dont expect 5 star plushness, but rather old worldly authenticity and a peak into living 100 years ago! Beautifully cool rooms in the heat and our family unit was just perfect of our needs. And so reasonably priced!"
"Did enjoy our stay, but its a bit disconcerting to see that for for private guests without breakfast. they only charge R100 per night, which is more reasonable as there are no en suite bathrooms, not to mention bats flying around in the passages!."
"A quiet location just minutes from town made Conville very attractive. The lovely location was a bonus as was the helpful hosts. We appreciated the opportunity to just sit and enjoy the pond and the bird life before heading to the pub for a meal."
"The Conville homestead is astonishing and it would have been interesting to have received some information on the house and the family."
"Lovely olde world charm. Little way out of town, which is nice. Clean, friendly. Does need a bit of restoration. A one night stay is more than enough. Great over-nighter."
"Enjoyed our stay at Conville. Lovely old family home and very welcoming. The rooms were comfortable and the veranda lovely to relax on and enjoy the view. We would certainly return if in the area."
"Our family of four stopped over on a trip from Gauteng to the coast. We were in two adjacent rooms. Both very comfortable. We packed a picnic for late afternoon when we arrived there. Beautiful setting with large garden overlooking a dam. Breakfast was great."
