Artist's Retreat

The Artist's Retreat is a premier destination for artists, writers, researchers, photographers, and craftspeople. The retreat is situated amidst great fever trees and lush gardens, providing both the serenity and stimulation to refresh your creative energies.

The Mogalakwena Artist's Retreat is a thatched lodge housing four themed rooms, with en-suite bathrooms and furnished with exquisite African as well as local art. The Artist's Retreat also includes The Writer's Cottage, a one-bedroom self-catering cottage adjacent to a fragrant citrus orchard.

The Retreat features generous studio space, a reading area, swimming pool, and dining and open lounge areas. Workshops are held regularly, attracting a diversity of creative people from around the world. There are ample opportunities for bush walks in the inspiring surroundings, as well as activities and tours offered by the neighboring Mogalakwena River Lodge.

The Artist's Retreat is also home to the Mogalakwena Research Institute for African Ecology and Anthropology. The northern part of Limpopo contains a diverse array of ecosystems, people, and cultural settings. The Mogalakwena Research Institute is situated in the Dry Woodland ecological region which covers much of Southern Africa. Opportunities for anthropological research abound, and coupled with suitable accommodation and research facilities, the Mogalakwena Reserve is well situated to provide the infrastructure for such research. The Research Centre will host a valuable ecological library, a craft art village and centre with a cultural/craft art library, as well as being close to local communities.
