The Khoi people called it "Aukoerebis", or place of Great Noise, as this powerful flow of water is unleashed from rocky surroundings characterised by the 18km abyss of the Orange River Gorge.
Quiver trees stand in stark silhouette against the African sky, silent sentinels in a strangely unique environment where only those that are able to adapt ultimately survive. The 55,383 hectares on both the northern and southern sides of the Orange River provide sanctuary to a diversity of species, from the very smallest succulents, birds and reptiles to springbok, gemsbok and giraffe.
Activities available include waterfall viewpoints, game viewing using own vehicle, night drives (bookable at the park), etc.

"The ablutions are old and are due for an upgrade. Mould, peeling paint etc"
"The friendliness, helpfulness and atmosphere was great. The restaurant food was excellent and the accommodation was also good. Of course we were lucky to have amazing weather where could sit outside in evening and enjoy a braai and glass of wine. Enjoyed some good hikes although quite nervous on certain sections of dassieshoek trail. Definitely not for the fainthearted."
"The walkways and views are the best. The chalets are okay but in desperate need for a kitchen makeover. A complimentary coffee station in each chalet would make a huge difference. And the very very tiny bar of soap in the bathroom is a joke. The fridge, which looks as if new, is noisy. As I'm a very light sleeper, it kept me awake most of the night. But overall the place is okay, just way overpriced for what you get."
"Staff member at the gate was extremely friendly, wish the staff at reception would learn from him, although not unfriendly the lady that helped us did not really try to make us feel at home it was a bit of an uncomfortable experience feeling that we were an inconvenience to her. The rest of the park and scenery was enjoyable."
"The chalets were great value and very comfortable. The falls are amazing to see as the sun is coming up. The restaurant was good and not too expensive."
"We were lucky to see the falls in flood, due to good rains in the inland catchment areas and the opening of the Vaal Dam and other dams. The drive through the park is worthwhile and we were surprised by many viewpoints and sceneries. Not all the caravan sites have proper shading which could be a problem during summer."
"We had a great stay and it was our first time visiting Augrabies. The rooms are slightly dated although very clean and very well situated. The units with a view were great and staff were very helpful."
"glad nie 'n plek om langer as 3 dae te bly nie .Kan meer diere in kry .Beslis word daar vir die oorsee se mark voorsiening gemaak en ons plaaslike mense moet betaal vir die gelag.Prys op herhinnerings buitensporig hoog."
"<p>I enjoyed the hot sunny weather and the nice cool swimming pools after a breath taking view of the falls and all the interesting rocks and nature around the falls.</p><p></p>"
"We enjoyed the campsite very much. The only problems were the 'miggies' and the vervet monkeys which are a great nuisance."
"Our stay in Augrabies Falls NP made me proud to be a South African! The facilities where we stayed as well as the central restaurant and shop are really of world class - modern, neat, super clean. Thank you!"
"No electricity in my chalet, that is plugs, no stove, fridge or microwave. At first given a chalet in the worst position but the lady did try and accommodate and was helpful."
"Dit was baie lekker by die kampplek. Badkamers is elke dag skoongemaak en die personeel was vriendelik. Sal beslis weer daar gaan kamp. Die restaurant is ook n wenner. Kos was HEERLIK! BAIE DANKIE."
"The waterfall was, as always, wonderful, but we had no water in the morning in the chalets. The shop also needs attention as there are not enough Augrabies memorabilia. Please look after the service, the lights have added so much to the falls that more people should want to stay at the park."
"Augrabies Falls National Park is one of South Africa's gems. Magnificent scenery with the stunning falls in full flight, the stark landscapes and views of the Dassie Walk (about a 3 hour circuit with moderate scrambling) and the beautiful morning drive to Echo Point (with a giraffe sighting thrown in!). Also try the wildlife spotting on the Night Drive (but rug up!). The accommodation (2 bedroom, 2 bathroom) was spotless, spacious and comfortable with a well equipped kitchen inside and a braai (bbq) facility outdoors). And an adjacent swimming pool. Plenty of wildlife on view from our chalet: baboons (morning & dusk), dassies, mongooses, birds. There is also an on-site restaurant (good value) and a souvenir and provisions shop where you can buy wood and meat for your braai. A great experience."
"We enjoyed our stay very much, but we missed watching tv. That really was the only shortcoming."
"Loved seeing the waterfall at night realy something different."
"Nice stay, unbelievable clouds and soft pink light just before sunset. Thanks."
"Augrabies is a lovely campsite, but I am afraid to say that it is overrun with monkeys - we couldnt even eat outside without having the monkeys take our food out of our hands! I hope that something will be done about this otherwise your campsite is going to be empty."
"The experience to return after 27 years was definitely worth the effort. The service of the park and those who run it is comparable to Niagara Falls. The only problem that I had was the convenience store who's unrealistic prices for everything even chased away foreigners, which I saw myself. This store should be placed under the direct supervision of the National Parks and not be outsourced. Otherwise a great time. Thanks."
"Environment relaxing, staff friendly and overall will recommend to more people to go and enjoy the park"
