Plato Lodge

Plato Lodge is a lovely thatched lodge located in the Northern Cape of South Africa, approximately 50 km from the Augrabies Falls. The nearby Augrabies Falls National Park is a national park located around the Augrabies Falls, about 120 km west of Upington. The Augrabies Falls National Park is an arid area that stretches along the Orange River and the waterfall is about 60 m high, and is awe-inspiring when the river is in flood. The original Khoikhoi people named the waterfall Ankoerebis, meaning the place of big noises. The Trekboers who later settled in the area derived the name Augrabies. The name is sometimes spelt Aughrabies. Great place for photography. Especially quiver trees.Accommodation is offered in twin or double rooms, each containing either a king-size bed or a twin single beds, a shower en-suite, mini-bar, tea and coffee-making facilities, and a balcony.The lodge offers braai and bar facilities. On-site parking is available.

    "View of mountain are beautiful, but nowhere do you see the river from the rooms as in fotos. Host Lea is very friendly and accommodating. There are no curtains on the window if you used to sleeping in complete darkness. There is coffee and tea but no milk, so bring your own. No glasses to drink water which is pretty basic. A plug and mirror bigger than A4 would help to dry your hair. Do not think this is at all value for money as the basic is not even there which you find in any other guest house at half the price. Very disappointing."

    "We felt deceived with this booking in 4 important ways : 1. We were not advised that there was in excess of 40km of gravel road to be traveled each way 2. There was no cell phone reception available 3. The bedrooms were incredibly small and right on top of one another, as such there was no privacy on the patio 4. There was no television in the room, let alone DSTV. This was only available in a communal lounge<br/><br/>As such we did not stay there and had to forefeit our deposit."
