DanielsHoogte Private Reserve

DanielsHoogte is a working farm rich in fynbos and situated at the top of Aurora Mountain, approximately 800 metres above sea level. This hidden gem boasts spectacular views of St Helena Bay on the beautiful West Coast as well as the farmlands of Piketberg to the east. On a clear day Table Mountain is visible in the far distance.

DanielsHoogte offers a relaxed country getaway, far enough from the hustle and bustle of city life. We have three self-catering mountain cottages situated in various locations on the farm.

This private reserve boasts much fauna and flora to be appreciated by any lover of the outdoors. It is a bird watchers haven, with 85 different bird species having been sighted thus far. The Protea Atlas Project has identified several endangered and endemic protea species in the reserve.

Hikers and cyclists are able to explore and enjoy the natural surrounds with many rocky outcrops and bushman paintings to view. You can cool off in one of our dams on a hot summer's day. Please note there is a minimum charge per night for Aristea, Chink and Disa apply, hence we advise guests to request the appropriate tariffs.

  • "Danielshoogte is great"

    22 March 2022

"We had a fantastic long weekend at Danielshoogte. It is a beautiful farm with interesting geology, lots of plant species, great birding opportunities (including Verreaux's eagle and Cape rockjumper) and an exquisite night sky. We enjoyed watching the beautiful Nguni cattle doing their rounds every day. The accommodation is clean, comfortable and has everything needed for a pleasant stay. The owner is very friendly and knowledgeable and he made us feel welcome from the start. This is a gem, not far from Cape Town, and easily accessible. We recommend Danielshoogte to all who enjoy the outdoors. There is something for everyone. Dankie, Daniel!"

  • "The silence of the place"

    19 February 2022

"Great and tranquility. But the road to arrive at the place is really difficult: big rocks on the road and roquallous. It need a 4x4 car or at least one quite high! But Daniel is a great host and to see the painting of San is amazing. House simple but clean. Go there and enjoy!"

  • "Remote, quiet, peaceful, private campsite in a lovely cave with a view"

    16 September 2017

"There are few campsites where one can stay in a natural cave which is accessible by road and has hot and cold running water. We particularly like the fact that the campsite is secluded. There are no neighbouring campers, one has the whole mountainside to ones-self. Other highlights are: A good sunset view of the sea, beautiful natural vegetation with a wealth of birdlife, great protection from the wind, a large and spacious cave and a wonderful area to explore for the bold and adventurous scrambler of rocks."

  • "Mountain Gem"

    16 January 2017

"Far above the restless world below, even in high season, this beautiful farm offers peace and quiet rest to those looking for a proper break-away.
The accommodation is very basic, thus may not be everyone's cup of tea, but we enjoyed the clean simplicity. It was fun preparing food on an in-house braai fire in a century old house.
Personal touch from owner to ensure any requirements are looked after."
