Millgate Cottage

Set in the scenic KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, Millgate Cottage is set amid the beautiful countryside just off the R103, between Nottingham Road and Howick. For relaxation seekers, we offer superb accommodation in self-catering cottages, suites or our Farmhouse, where guests enjoy the sights and sounds of nature.

Millgate Cottage has two self-catering cottages with modern kitchens fully equipped with stoves, microwaves, fridge-freezers, crockery and cutlery. Selected DStv channels ensure that you will not miss your favourite sports event. Each cottage also has a veranda and braai facilities. The view from the cottages is the distant Drakensburg Mountains.

Millgate has three additional suites, two of which have self-catering facilities. They all come with fans, heaters and TVs with M-Net to make your stay a pleasant one. The views from the suites are that of a lush garden backed by forest.

We have divided our large farmhouse into two sections, one sleeping five people and the other up to nine people. Each section has its own fully equipped kitchen, with full-size stove, fridge, microwave, utensils and the like. Each section has its own bathroom. Because of their size, we set the number of guests as three in the smaller section and four in the larger section, or the equivalent rate.

Please note that additional single beds can be added to all of our rooms.

For entertainment and to meet with the locals, guests visit our pub, The Crafty Mole which is Balgowans local watering hole. Stocked with the typical variety of beverages, Millgate Cottages pub specialises in locally-produced craft beer. When not keeping an eye on the TV, nor sipping their favourite drink, guests can try a game of pool, challenge friends at darts and have fun outside on the putt putt course.

This could also be a special event venue; using sleeper couches, Millgate Cottage can accommodate more than 33 people. It has a bar, a dining room, an equipped catering kitchen and large grounds. Using this combination it proved itself to be a popular venue for holding special events. Garden weddings, significant birthdays and many friends and family gatherings have been held at Millgate Cottage.

  • "Perfect for a weekend with friends"

    13 February 2018

"We were staying at Millgate as we were attending a wedding close by over the weekend. It met all of our needs and was a good place for such a large group. We were out most of the time at the wedding functions, so did not spend much time at the accommodation itself. However it was clean and perfectly adequate for our purposes."

"The cottage has everything you need, even though it is not a five star establishment. The area is peaceful and serene, so go there to relax. It is in the heart of the Midlands Meander which is reason enough to stay there."
