Monyane Bush Lodge

Tucked away in the Waterberg, approximately 90 minutes drive from Johannesburg, lies Monyane, a small 21-hectare bush lodge providing simple pleasures and enjoyment for real nature loving couples/singles. From the outset, it was our aim to establish something different with little to no disruption to nature, and we are indeed fortunate that our guests approve of our efforts in creating a rustic, yet stylish mkhukhu.

Monyane is ideally suited for those who enjoy functional simplicity, silence, tranquility, magnificent views, ruby sunsets and fields of stars. Although our little piece of paradise is not a game farm, some of the smaller species of antelope such as Steenbok and Duiker are regularly spotted. Other residents include a warthog family and a jackal duo whom, when the mood is just right, will provide a serenade or two. Our Livingstone unit sleeps 2 adults on a queen-size bed. The unit is private and consists of en-suite facilities ie. Cement bath, enamel basin in the sleeping area, with separate toilet and outdoor shower attached. The unit is also furnished with a well-equipped kitchenette. To take advantage of our area's reputation for having the best weather in South Africa, we have provided an outdoor kitchen consisting of a built in braai, a gas two plate stove and a dish washing station. Please note no tv's are available. Our communal sundeck and splash pool is the ideal spot for reading and cooling off, or just finding inspiration in the beauty and sounds of the bush. A wide range of activities, all within a 20 50 minute drive from our farm, are available and include game drives, elephant safaris, zip line adventures, horse- and quad bike rides, hot water swimming resorts for day visitors, fishing, golf, archery, clay pigeon shooting, paintball, a game rehabilitation center, wild dog /cheetah farm and spa treatments. We look forward to welcoming you to Monyane.

Items to bring along: fire wood or charcoal, swimming towels, a torch and ice.

Unfortunately children cannot be accommodated. Please note that credit card facilities are not available.

For those guests who do not care for dogs, we would like to advise that we have a small dog that runs around periodically.

    28 April 2021

"Arno and his dog Fielies :-) were very friendly and we received a warm hearted welcome. The place is exactly as the photos so we we knew what to expect. Place was clean and we loved the rustic feeling. Definitely a place where you can just go and recharge your batteries again. Arno is a considered and caring host. We will definitely go there again for a weekend."

  • "Serene Bliss"

    28 December 2017

"It is a blissful place. The isolation is probably its best strength for people who want to get away. This is my 2nd time there. A lovely setup with nice rustic self catered units that have lots of privacy."

  • "Comfortable and Quiet. Perfect for Rest & Relaxation"

    02 October 2017

"The lodge is set in a really beautiful location which is well worth the short drive on the dirt road. It is a perfect breakaway from hustle and bustle. It was really tidy and well equipped. Arno was really accommodating and welcoming. We had a really enjoyable stay."

  • "Hartshuisie en sielerus"

    01 August 2017

"Monyane Bush Lodge het my absolute rustigheid en sielerus gebied! Ek is met 'n oophart en vriendelikheid verwelkom deur Arno en Fielies. So ver as wat die oog kan sien is dit net Bosveld en rustigheid! Hierdie hartshuisie gaan my beslis weer sien en is alreeds aan vriende en familie bemark. Dankie 1000 Arno dat jy jou hartshuisie oopstel vir die publiek om dit wat vir jou kosbaar is, te kan smaak!!"

  • "Geoff and Tudi Galloway"

    17 October 2016

""What a delightful place" was Tudi's comment when she saw our "Hacienda". Tastefully furnished with everything we needed for our few days, we really enjoyed our few days away from civilization. These were the best surroundings to enjoy each others company and get our lives "back on track after the busyness of life. Thanks Arno - you too were a brilliant host, and give our greetings to your equally delightful dog Phyllis."

  • "Restful spot"

    21 October 2014

"If you want a spot to chill and do nothing, this is a good place to visit. We slept, braaied (remember to take your own wood or charcoal), read, played board games and went for a walk. Very relaxing.
Arno, the owner, is pleasant and helpful. The wind was quite bad while we were there (but that was throughout the region over this particular weekend), and unfortunately the unit's verandah has no protection from it. As there's not much space inside the unit, we braved the gusts to sit outside anyway, and managed to spot a little tortoise in the grass, which made my day.
The accommodation is very rustic, but the bed is comfortable and the outside shower has great pressure.
Hacienda d'Monyane is quite off the beaten track (which means it's nice and peaceful, apart from the neighbour's peacocks), so take what you need with you, especially if you plan on cooking. The cooking utensils in the unit are very basic and it's a pain to have to trek to and from the "bush kitchen" (set apart from the units), which is where the washing up area is, especially in the dark. Take a torch.
It's easier to get to Hacienda d'Monyane with a higher vehicle (we were in an SUV). It will require caution and patience with a small, low car.The neighboring land is home to lots of game, including eland, kudu, warthog, zebra, blue wildebeest, ostrich and impala, so taking a walk down the road is worth it."

  • "Sublime and serene"

    14 October 2014

"We enjoyed our stay to the full, the only regret we had was that we did not book for the whole weekend. It was difficult to leave. The place is so magnificent and peaceful. The environment certainly gave us an invaluable opportunity to reflect on our relationship and we left stronger than when we came in. Nothing short of excellency. Arno, what can I say, he is such an amazing host. The place is superbly suitable for retreat."

    10 April 2013

  • "Simple peace and pleasure"

    20 October 2010

"Hacienda d'Monyane is a weekend getaway in Bela Bela made extra special. Simple things like switching on a bedside lamp when we arrived back late at night, setting a special dinner table under the stars. Arno is a gracious and attentive host, and the effort and little details make all the difference."

  • "A beautiful stay for a week"

    11 October 2010

"Hacienda d' Monyane was exactly what we needed. A place to relax and recuperate from an earlier hectic week. It is so quiet and ideal for those that want to re-energise themselves. The only sounds that entertained us were those of singing birds and occasionally some distant jackals. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and the host was very good to us. There is no doubt we will be frequent visitors to Hacienda d' Monyane. We stayed in the tenthouse suite, which is spacious and perfect for hot days and evenings so we were quite impressed with the whole set-up and the little 'beach' for an afternoon swim."
