Jabulani means "happy", and with its abundance of flora and fauna in the surrounding indigenous forest, combined with the spectacular Drakensberg scenery, the Jabulani Bush Camp is a sanctuary for any nature lover. There is surely no finer way to relax than around a crackling fire beneath a star-spangled sky.
The bush camp features a combination of both Thatched Tented A-frame Units and equipped thatched Self-catering Units, hidden amongst the vegetation for that extra bit of privacy. All units are en-suite and feature their own barbecue facilities outside. Please keep in mind that, by choice, there is no electricity in the camp. We make use of gas geysers, stoves and fridges, and solar power for light in the rooms.
The camp grounds cover a sprawling area which includes berg streams and a dam, along with large areas of indigenous forest. What makes this farm so unique is that it has a bushveld feel to it, while being in the berg. The farm comprises mostly open, rolling plains area or savannah, with meandering rivers and deep ravines and gorges, while the western part of the property comprises plateau and steep-sided cliffs.
"Beautiful setting. Unfortunately it rained all day and we had to move on the next day. Staff were very accommodating and friendly"
"Three nights in beautiful surrounds and a lovely bush camp. Would have appreciated a visit by the Manager. Two camp staff very helpful when both bottles of gas for the kitchen ran out. Very hot - no streams running at the end of winter so no swimming. Would be easier if basic equipment was provided. How sad about Royal Natal - the buildings just left to go to ruin since 2000 and this used to be the flagship accommodation in the area. Excellent half way point to meet the children and grandchild from Durban."
"We enjoyed our stay at Jabulani Bush Camp, it was peaceful and beautiful. Will most definitely visit the camp again!"
"Dit was so wonderlike ervaring by Jabulani bush camp.Al was ons op generator krag tussen 18:00 en 22:00 was daar skoon gas yskaste en kombuis geriewe.Die tente en hele kamp was mooi skoon danksy Joeph wat alles daar reg netjies en koon hou.Dit is voorwaar n voel paradys en n heerlike plek om weg te kom van die stad se gejaag en stres.Ons sal beslis weer Jabulani bush camp besoek in die toekoms.<br></br><i>It was such a wonderful experience at Jabulani camp. Even when we were on generator power between 18:00 and 22:00 all was clean, gas refrigerators and kitchen tents. The whole camp was clean, thanks Joeph that everything was neat and right. It is truly a feel of paradise and a great place to get away from the rat race and will definitely return. We will definitely visit Jabulani Bush Camp in the future.</i>"
"We left Gauteng a bit late on Friday afternoon, but we arrived close to 9 o'clock that evening and we had telephonic contact with the manager for most of our way there. He was very helpful all the way and we enjoyed our stay at the camp and I will personally recommend the camp to anyone. What a place!"
"Yes thank you! It is beautiful!"
"Very peaceful rest, basic but comfortable. Good value for money, will be back."
"If you want peace and quite, solitude or a place to unwind then Jabulani Bush Camp is the place to go. Amazing bird life for bird watchers."
"Lovely setting. Rooms are neat and clean. Delightfully rustic. However, we had no hot water on Saturday night- the caretaker told us to shower in another room- there was no hot water there either. Owner remained conspicuous by his absence the entire weekend. SPCA would have definitely take away the grey horse with huge saddle-sores- it was still saddled-up despite its sores! Think the place could be better managed!"
"We enjoyed our stay! Except for the fact that the unit was very dark during the day as no electricity but also no gas lights or lamps? This was frustrating. Loved the fire place, staff so helpful and friendly!!<br></br> <b>Establishment's response</b><br></br> <i>The whole camp runs on solar electricity by choice. There are lights in all the rooms that gets switched on for approx 5 hours in the evening. At 22:00 each night the solar electricity gets switched off by my staff. I advised the guest (like i do with all guests) to take torches with - just for this reason. I will have additional paraffin lamps placed in this specific unit as well.</i>"
"A perfect place to rest and feed your body, mind and sole."
"We were only there for a very short time but wished we could have stayed much longer! Great location and very relaxing - nice accommodation!"
"Very relaxing. Mattresses a bit hard. A small table on the veranda would be nice. We had a lovely two days. We didnt take fishing rods - is there fish in the dam? If so, we will remember the fishing rods next time. Most enjoyable. Perfect weather. Farm staff very friendly and eager to please. We would like to return with more family members. The camp site is nicely tucked away from traffic and in a beautiful part of the Berg. Thank you."
"What a lovely little set-up, very basic but that is all you need. We stayed in the honeymoon suite which was idyllic and so cosy. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a low cost holiday a few hours out of Johannesburg. Such a great find!"
"I did not sleep at Jabulani Bush camp as we were the only visitors, the place is far from any town if something happened to my 18 month old daughter and the place did not meet me and my wife's expectations. I think it will be a nice place if it is a group booking especially for churches and schools etc."
"Fantastic. No TV or radio. Have your cellphone switched OFF during you stay in the camp, otherwise you will miss an ideal opportunity to experience a real feeling of being away from civilisation for a short while. Facilities are clean and very basic, just good enough for comfort in a real bush environment. The staff are excellent and very helpful."
