Tugela Rapids
Tugela Rapids is a rustic, self-catering retreat situated on the banks of the Tugela River in the Bergville district of KwaZulu-Natal. The camp is situated on a working farm where we do beef, sheep, vegetable and crop farming. The farm is situated off the R74, between Bergville and Winterton which are farming villages that offer basic shopping needs. Come and sample the peace of paradise in the total seclusion of your own exclusive bush camp.Accommodation comprises a self-catering unit sleeping up to eight guests. The unit contains two separate bedrooms, each sleeping four guests. The sleeping arrangements are loft-style, with two guests downstairs and two guests upstairs. Bathroom facilities include an ablution block with two toilets and a shower. The water is heated by gas and we have a solar lighting system.Features include a lapa with a deck overlooking the river, which also serves as a kitchen and social area. The kitchen is fully equipped with a gas stove as well as a gas fridge with deep freeze space. In addition, there is also an indoor barbecue as well as an outdoor barbecue area for relaxed entertaining.Please note the minimum rate for any party of four persons or less for one night is R380 pppn. And anytime that you do is at own risk management is not reliable for any injuries!

"Total peace and tranquility"
03 September 2014"Roz and Trev have built the most "get-away-from-it all" accommodation that is a true paradise. The location is 4km from the road and so the only noise disturbance is that of the Tugela River flowing beneath the deck and the chatter of the abundant birds. The accommodation is described as rustic, but the beds are amazingly comfortable, the kitchen was the best equipped one we had during our 3 week tour of South Africa. The lapa was so comfortable and cosy with its sofas and open fire. We stayed with our children, aged 10, 12 and 14, who enjoyed making use of the tubes to float in the river. Coming from the UK I also found the communication with Roz very easy, with her responding to my many emails immediately. Fabulous hosts and the best accommodation ever!"

22 April 2014"Braaiing, tubing and swimming in the Tugela, hiking, feeding the lambs, stargazing, catching up with old friends, snoozing, reading a book, sundowners on the deck: we had a fabulous Easter at Tugela Rapids!A wonderful secluded getaway, built with stones from the land, wood from the forest and grass from the veld, powered by solar and gas and fresh air, and fueled by the hospitality of Roz and Trevor: a gem!"

08 July 2013"Had a really great weekend even though I was phoneless all weekend, no laptop no nothing it gave me and my partner a chance to really bond. Loved the sound of the river in the morning really calming and I loved that nobody bothers you during your stay everything as at your own leisure in future would really love it if there can be quad biking or horse ridding but all in all a wonderful place."

01 October 2012"We spent a really wonderful weekend at Tugela Rapids. If peace and tranquility is what you are looking for and if nature is your passion then this is the place to stay! The birdlife is phenomenal and the sound of the farm animals close by very comforting. The Tugela River's constant babbling lulls you into a peaceful sleep.The amenities are very clean and well kept, Trevor and Roz have ensured that there is nothing lacking . A lot of attention to detail.There is plenty of hot water and nothing is too much trouble for the Wood's. We fed the lambs and spent a lovely hour with Trevor and Roz and their dogs at the homestead. We have found a treasure and will definitely visit again and again. Thank You for a wonderful stay Trevor and Roz."
