Slowly, the emphasis has shifted from all kinds of gimmicks and unnecessary luxuries to the friendly reception and service of guests. . . Heartfelt and warm that makes people feel at home.
At Gooseberry this is something we are very close to. Even strangers for the first time, dare not to be neglected.
NB but please note the following:
1. We do not guarantee specific requested rooms
2. Meals are optional and not included in the room tariff
3. Full English breakfast is served @ R85 pp and full dinner @ R155 pp. However, other economical options are available.
4. Clean, private and straightforward Accommodation, Fresh Home-cooked meals and Personal Service in Action, but at rates that suit their pockets that fit into their tight budgets and basic accommodation needs. Our service delivery is on three levels:
The three levels are:
Top Level Service with two comfortable and more luxury rooms that provides almost 5 star service, aimed at the more finicky and choosy guest;
Standard Level Service with 3x rooms in this class for those individuals that require a standard room. They just want to kick off their shoes, unwind and relax;
Contractors Level Service with 2x duplex units, consisting of 4x rooms that sleep up to eight people. This is ideal for sport and working groups on a low budget.
All our rooms come with en-suite bathrooms and private entrances, We can promise you a place to stay, similar to what you are used to at home no frills or excessive extras.
Guests should notice that OUR RESERVATION POLICY IS FIRST-RESERVED-FIRST-SERVED, SUBJECT TO AVAILABILITY WHEN ACCEPTED. However, we do not guarantee specific requested rooms, but we will allocate you in the best available room, with a full description of the facilities. "Nor much good to say. Requested and booked 4 separate bed for 4 adult males. The unit only had a double bed and 2 singles in it. The place is old and run down. Electrical wiring exposed. TV shocks when touching. Beds old and hollow. Stairs very steep and potentially dangerous. At least the water was hot and the host friendly and accomadating"

"When arriving on the date of my reservation, AND DEPOSIT PAID, I was told that I was not booked with them. After +-10-minutes they came back and showed me in a book I was booked for the 22 Feb and not 24th. Altough I had my reservation number: 10790723, and reservation dates on hand, in mail from SafariNow.<div><br /></div><div>They did then get me a place at a different house of a family member, of which I did not make use.</div><div><br /></div><div>IN SHORT, SAFARI-NOW & GOOSEBERRY MUST SORT THIS OUT, IF THE FAULT IS WITH GOOSEBERRY I RECOMMEND YOU TAKE THEM OF YOUR LIST.</div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div>I ALSO REQUEST THAT YOU REFUND MY DEPOSIT?</div><div><br /></div><div>IN THE MEANTIME I WILL NEVER USE SAFARI-NOW AGAIN AND WILL UNFORTUNATELY SHARE MY EXPERIENCE WITH FRIENDS AND BUSINESS COLLEAQUES. </div>"

"We had a very comfortable stay despite the cold weather in Bethlehem - which Durbanites are not used to! We received a very warm welcome from a friendly host. The room was spacious, well-equipped and neat. There were heaters in the room and bathroom and enough extra blankets to help keep the cold out! The breakfast was also hearty and delicious. We will definitely stay there again."

"<p>Gooseberry Lodge is one of the best B&Bs I have stayed at.</p><p>Unfortunately my visit was only overnight but I felt thoroughly relaxed and at home. My room was spacious and comfortable, there were sufficient blankets for a Durban girl who is not used to the cold, tea and coffee provided and lots of quiet.</p><p>Deon was a very kind host and I would love to visit the area and lodge again.</p><p>Well done!</p><p></p>"

"Ons was hartlik verwelkom, en op die koue aand soos dit was het n heerlike glasie sjerrie op die tafel vir ons in die kamer gewag. Deon en sy span het moeite gedoen om aan al ons behoeftes te voldoen en het selfs die kamer rondgeskuif sodat ons alles kon inkry. Die kamer was lekker warm en die groot bad in die badkamer n heerlike bederf. Die ontbyt was heerlik. Die onderdak parkering is n bonus. Ek sal Gooseberry aan enigiemand aanbeveel."

"The GooseBerry Lodge Guest House is an excellent facility at affordable price compared to the cost of accommodation in the region. The owners, Deon and Linda are very hospitable and friendly, and eager to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. Its location in the town centre is an added advantage. The town of Clarens and the Golden Gate, where accommodation is significantly expensive and difficult to find during holidays, are only about 20 minute drive from the Lodge and is a better option. We shall recommend it to all our friends who may plan to pass thru and stay in that area. P K Jain"

"We were welcomed by Deon since his wife was visiting her sick mother in Pretoria and he went out of his way to make sure we had everything we needed. Even housing our Christmas turkey in his own fridge! <br/>We had a good nights rest and a really good breakfast the next morning which set us up for the day ahead.<br/>All in all a very pleasant stay, we will book there again if we are going through Bethlehem."
