  • "A very unique experience"

    01 September 2020

"A group of four of us on a long weekend motorbike trip stayed at Rosenhof for two nights in August 2020. It is a very unique place, full of antiques and interesting old items. Not fancy, but very comfortable and we enjoyed the experience."

  • "Rosenhof Exclusive Country Lodge"

    03 April 2018

"It was a long night, Mosquitos in the room, dust everywhere in the room, TV not working and the bed is old and noisy with every turn. I don't recommend this place to anyone.<br/><br/>Establishment Response: <br/><br/>I can only respond in that the room booked has 2 antique brass beds in it with obviously makes a noise when people turn in the bed. I regret not having a doom type spray in the room as we have recently had heavy very welcome rains which have initiated a surge in mosquitoes. I can assure you the mattresses are up to standard as they were recently purchased.<br/>The tv was a problem as the decoder had been hit the previous day by lightning.<br/><br/>As to the dust on inspection, we were not aware what areas he is referring to as we couldn't see any problems.<br/><br/>However, in good faith, we are prepared to offer a free nights accommodation at a time convenient to the guest providing we have availability. <br/><br/>If you compare our normal revues, you will notice that this is an exception to the norm and one we take very seriously.<br/><br/>Regards Cedric von Steiger<br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/>"

  • "Character and Value at Rosenhof"

    18 June 2017

"Impressive value with warm, comfortable beds and character-full, clean rooms. A very special personal touch from Poppie including a warm welcome and delicious breakfast."

  • "Non Exclusive"

    22 June 2016

"We booked two luxury double rooms since they are listed as sleeping 4 people.<div>It is also the only type of room listed on SafariNow for Rosenhof.</div><div>We were put up in three outside rooms of whicj only one could sleep four people.</div><div>That room had cracks in the wall that you could see through and a door so skew that clothing was stuffed in the gaps between the door an the frame to prevent the cold wind from blowing in.</div><div>The facilities listed included an inside fireplace, but none of the three rooms had a fireplace and only one had coffee facilities. We were initially impressed that Jacobs coffee was offered. Big was our disappointment when we realised that the containers was filled with Ricoffy instead.</div><div>We asked for breakfast at 08:00 the next morning.</div><div>The main lodge was locked when we were ready at 08:00. Poppie eventually arrived at 08:20. We then had to wait for the tables to be set and the breakfast to be prepared. While we waited we explored the rest of the main house and realised we were sold short. The rooms inside was of a much higher standard and they were unoccupied!</div><div>All the rooms had a double bed each, so not sure why only "luxury" family rooms are listed.</div><div>Even after seeing the inside of the main house I feel the wording of the description on SafariNow is false advertising. Nothing at Rosenhof can be defined as exclusive or luxurious. It mght, at best, be seen as budget accomodation and value for money if you are booked into the main house. The outside rooms are not fit for human habitation, especially not in winter.</div>"

  • "Dance competition accommodation"

    16 May 2016

"We were welcomed warmly on a cold rainy day by Alta and Poppie, after which we were welcomed also by the owner Cedric.<div>As artists ourselves, my daughter and I feasted our eyes on the rich heritage of art and old-worldly charm of the sand-stone and mud-brick structure of this lovely venue. We were caught up pleasantly in an era long gone by. Our room was quaint and luxurious and were told breakfast at the early hour we required was no problem.</div><div>We were welcomed at the owner's restaurant as if we were part of the community and treated to wonderful food and company the night before the competition and was very reluctant to leave the next day.<br />We will most certainly return to the warm hospitality of Rosenhof and the Paul Roux people. Thank you Cedric, Alta, Poppie and all the others involved in our stay, hope to see you again very soon.</div>"

  • "Rustic and tranquil"

    28 March 2016

"We stayed here for two nights over the Easter weekend while visiting a friend who lives in Paul Roux. Rosenhof is a very rustic tranquil country hotel with antique furniture. Poppy checked us in and kept us informed and made us a lovely breakfast every morning."

  • "The Rosenhof hotel"

    01 April 2013

"WE loved the hotel. It was comfortable, full of character, and quiet, The staff were friendly and helpful. However when we went to the bar at the entrance to Paul Roux which we understand also belongs to, and is run by, the owner of the hotel we were charged R37.00 for one beer and one city. We found this outrageous and were not tempted to eat there."

  • "Paul Roux - who knew?"

    04 January 2013

"A step back in time to old world hospitality in a building that has been lovingly restored and with the most amazing decor. Cedric (the owner) is a collector of note, original art, memorobilia, vintage cars, you name it and this is reflected in the interior design. We relaxed over supper on the cool front stoop and were entertained by his wonderful anecdotes and history of the area. A pity we had only booked in for one night, we will definitely be back!"

  • "Overnight stay"

    10 November 2012

"Very good, excellent breakfast. Cedric the owner was unfortunately in hospital, but well looked after by Mariette."

  • "Relaxed and homely"

    22 October 2012

"Relaxed, good personal service and not your run of the mill franchise or chain group. The day I left I even found my car had been washed. Big breakfast. A country feel filled with furniture from yesteryear."

  • "Rosenhof"

    14 June 2011

"We had a wonderful time in Paul Roux and Rosenhof exceeded our expectations. The beds were soft and the linen crisp, and the breakfast was great. Well done Herlina!"

  • "Old-style atmosphere"

    03 May 2011

"Our thanks to Cedric and his staff for their hospitality, friendliness and relaxed way of making guests feel at home away from home. Everyone went the extra mile to sort out any requests/queries. We really enjoyed our 11-night stay with bed and a whopper of a breakfast each day. Although we learnt the lodge does not cater for supper at this stage, we found the food at "The Rock" pub excellent value for money. Incidently he owns this as well. The furniture and paintings/ornaments really complement the old-style ambiance of of the sandstone buildings which are characteristic of the area. If the opportunity arose we would be quite happy to stay there again!"
