Channel Rocks

These nine units/duplexes are located on the beach within the Channel Rocks and Sovereign Sands complex, at Blythedale Beach on the Dolphin Coast, 30 km north of Ballito. These units/duplexes are self-contained and have all the necessary amenities for self-catering holidays for a group of up to seven people per three-bedroom unit.There are four three-bedroom units with a main en-suite bedroom, two three-bedroom duplexes, one two-bedroom duplex, and two one-bedroom units. All units have a DStv decoder with limited channels - for full viewing guests are required to bring their own smart card and decoder. The kitchen is fully-equipped with a stove, fridge, and microwave. The kitchen, lounge and dining room areas are open-plan and flow out onto a private front patio, with a view of the beach through the coastal dune vegetation. Excellent bird-watching at the Umvoti River Mouth Lagoon some 3 km to the south or at the Nonoti Rover mouth 4 km to the north, can be done on foot.There is also a convenience store within walking distance of the complex. A large selection of supermarkets and other stores are to be found at Stanger some 5 km inland, or at Ballito 30 km to the south. Gateway, the largest shopping complex in the Southern Hemisphere, lies outside Umhlanga Rocks, a further 30 km to the south on the N2.

    "The best thing this accommodation had going for it was easy access to a lovely quite and clean beach. You could hear the waves breaking from your bedroom, quite relaxing. Other than that the accommodation itself was very basic. No towels supplied in the bathroom. We had to request dishwashing liquid in order to wash the plates and cutlery. TV looks like it came from the late 1980's. The portable stove top was rusted and grundgy looking, not something you'd want to cook on. The bed comfortable but the fan in the bedroom didn't work and the bedroom was infested with die-hard mosquitoes who weren't even deterred by mosquito mats or any form of repellent, made for nights of restless sleep and tons of mossie bites. The hosts were friendly and tried to do their best to accommodate requests. Feel the price, although fair, wasn't worth what the establishment offered, even for self-catering accommodation. Feel a lot could be done to improve this accommodation as this area bodes well for a relaxing, quiet getaway. We stayed for a weekend for a friend's wedding but unfourtunately I don't see ourselves going back to stay again."

    "I was disappointed with the accomodation. The owner's team of workers/builders stayed in the unit above my place. I had to silence them myself twelve o'clock at night. I complained about this and the receptionist informed me that she was also not happy with the workers staying in the holiday accomodation but that the owner insisted. Despite my complaint nobody phoned me and apologised. Next time I will pay a bit more for proper accomodation."
