NOSTALGIE

Nostalgie is a beautiful and remarkable old farm homestead. The house will pull at your heart strings with its 'boere charm", handcrafted by my grandfather in the early 1900's, the whole house was constructed with mud bricks that was casted and fired in the back yard. The four cozy, sunny bedrooms are lovingly furnished with original pieces, some made by Italian war prisoners' during WW2. The elegant, creaky, hard wood floors and wooden framed doors further contribute to the allure of Nostalgie. Many a leg of lamb has been roasted in the rustic old kitchen. The kitchen has been updated with a gas stove/electric oven as well as other essential modern appliances. Experience the lost art of shared meals around the old Blackwood dining table, many a story has been shared around it. The specious sitting room boasts a cozy, wood burning fireplace, snuggle in front of it during those icy winter evenings. Nostalgie has one bathroom to share, it consists of a bath and shower as well as a separate toilet. Adjacent to the house is a double room with on-suite shower and toilet. Outside you will find a "stoep" that wraps around two sides of the house, watch the sun rise with cup of "boeretroos" or poor yourself a sundowner and relax as you contemplate life while looking out over grasslands and old outbuildings. Around the back you'll find a large enclosed backyard underneath mature blue gum trees. A perfect spot to braai the ultimate lamb tjop.

Nostalgie is situated on a third generation cattle, sheep and maize farm. The farm is approximately 2 hours drive from Johannesburg and is ideal for a family retreat. Get away from the city bustle and surround yourself with farm life at its best

Apart from the numerous farm activities, like milking cows the old-fashioned way, and feeding the orphaned calves, theres also almost 3000 ha to explore on foot or on mountain bike.

Take a short walk down to the Otterspruit for a game of "kleilat" or try your hand at catching catfish.

There is a variety of bird life on the numerous pans on the farm. Night drives or walks can be arranged for the adventurous who would like to see a porcupine, jackal, springhare or aardvark roaming the grasslands. (booking essential - depending on season)

Remember to bring your farm shoes, a good book, binoculars, excellent coffee and an expectation to wind down.

"Expecting normal overnight accommodation we were surprised to have an entire 3-bedroom farmhouse at our disposal. Tanja's welcome to an enormous sparkling clean and tidy dwelling truly warmed our hearts. The very comfortable bed and the tranquility of a "boereplaas" enabled us to shed the weariness of a long journey. We would highly recommend Rietkuil Farm Cottage.Pieter & Lenie van Zyl, Alberton, Gauteng."
