  "This is nice place but very basic therefore good value for the money you pay. Glasses etc. were not properly clean and had to rewaush the cutlery. If you want luxury you will have to pay more and go elsewhere and the gravel road was not in a good condition after the rains. Overall good basic overnight stay."

As we arrive, we were totally not expected at the 13:00 time that was emailed to us ... nothing was in place. We went to the cottage to leave our <g class="gr_ gr_23 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_run_anim Punctuation only-del replaceWithoutSep" id="23" data-gr-id="23">baggage,</g> and gave them time to <g class="gr_ gr_15 gr-alert gr_spell gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling" id="15" data-gr-id="15">clean-up</g> the room after the previous guests left, which apparently were minutes before (how can this be, they <g class="gr_ gr_21 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_run_anim Grammar multiReplace" id="21" data-gr-id="21">were suppose</g> to left at 10:00am?<g class="gr_ gr_24 gr-alert gr_tiny gr_gramm gr_run_anim Punctuation replaceWithoutSep" id="24" data-gr-id="24">,</g> which leave more than enough time to clean up the room?). The cottage did not resemble any of the photo's I saw on the internet ... we all were very disappointed. The cleaners camped outside the cottage on the garden <g class="gr_ gr_26 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_run_anim Punctuation only-del replaceWithoutSep" id="26" data-gr-id="26">chairs,</g> and did not even bother to get up. On the upside ... when we return later the evening, the cottage was very clean, everything in its place, nice and spacious ... the hospitality of the owners(?), Colleen and her husband, made us feel very welcome, 10 out of 10 for that! In essence, I will book there again for an overnight stay, and I think new things are coming for <g class="gr_ gr_16 gr-alert gr_spell gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace" id="16" data-gr-id="16">Cythia's</g> Country Stay ... it seems that the new managers are very enthusiastic and have big plans. The rate per person per <g class="gr_ gr_31 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_run_anim Punctuation only-del replaceWithoutSep" id="31" data-gr-id="31">night,</g> is very fair, and you will have a clean bed to sleep in.</p><p></p><p>Establishments response:</p><div style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px; outline: 0px; font-size: 13px; vertical-align: baseline; border: 0px; line-height: 1.3; word-break: normal; word-wrap: break-word; color: #333333; background-color: #fefef0;">Thank you for your review.   "My stay at Cynthia's country house was a nightmare, the place was dirty, the bedding is old, the fridges are not working our grocery got spoiled. Those chalets need to be revamped from bathrooms to kitchens. Who still sleeps in bunkbeds in chalets, people should have a gud or nice weekend out not to feel the way we did, people in chalets 1,2,3,4 couldn't wait to leave the place and to their comfortable homes. The mattresses are hard there is no comfort, no privacy in those chalets. I wouldn't recommend the place to people. So sorry there was nothing gud I saw or felt about the place......"

  "We stayed in the chalets; and it was perfect for our requirements. We weren't looking for luxury or bells &amp; whistles. We just wanted a bed for the night. I found it a little weird that the toilets weren't part of the chalet but since we spent exactly 9 hours there, it wasn't too much of an issue. Especially considering the price. The only thing I wasn't too impressed with was that nobody came to greet us when we arrived. Again, not a massive issue but it was a little unprofessional."

We were only told on arrival that there would be other people staying in the house with us which, personally, I found to be a bit awkward and inconsiderate. Like I said before it really could be fantastic if more care and investment was taken into the house."

  "Rustic is not really the right word to describe it. Would not have awarded a star at all, but can't leave review if left blanc.Will not recommend it, not worth paying R200 per person. Don't think chalets is up to building standard.The photo's on web is very nice with a lovely pool. At the wooden chalets is a plastic pool only. Ablution needs a complete revamp. Maybe undercover parking?"

  "When I booked at Cynthia's Country House, I saw on Safarinow, pictures of the place that really appealed to me. I enquired and booked according to that. My husband I were to stay in the Blue room. Well I tell you what, we never even saw the house, pool or any of the beautiful surroundings that was advertised, never mind "the Blue Room. When I phoned Cynthia to ask her where the Country house is she was quick to say that we are to follow the sand road and we will see a sign that will show is to the wooden chalets. She also said that we mustn't be to surprised because it DOESNT look like the pictures on the internet as advertised but we must just remember that it is clean. I was a little taken aback but when we stopped there I was disgusted. It looked like tool sheds converted into rooms. The walls are water damaged. The place is run down. My husband does a lot of travel in Africa and goes to remote areas and this was worse that he has experienced in all his travels. We didn't stay there, even though we had paid up front. We booked into another place rather. I wouldn't recommend anyone go the Cynthia's Country House. Sorry Cynthia but your Country House lodges are not fit for anyone to stay in. I cant give it any star rating.Jenny NelSouth Africa"

  "Disappointed doesn't begin to explain the horror that awaited us at Cynthias giving this place half a star would be very generous.. The description and the place that we arrived to were totally different even the pictures said a whole different story. I do not understand why people would false advertise and think that it is ok, to me that says a lot about a person and how you run business and you still tell people its not that bad. To cut the story short our chalets should not even be advertised as a place to go sleep, it was as if they where for the laborers on site and they told them to go home for the weekend. The floor had holes, the gas stove wasn't working, the beds were army beds with a sponge that had been there for 10 years, the linen and duvets had molds and the so called cupboards where falling apart and there was an old couch that was filthy and yet the owner claimed the place had been cleaned. The water was cold through out the stay. A little goes a long way if you want to keep clients happy which is what we where looking for at Cynthias. My suggestion to you Cynthia would be to close off the chalets and put that effort into the main house because it also looked like it needed the lift, get rid of the army beds and get proper matrass, towels and bed linen and deco because one would get sick in the ones you provided. Just because you charge R200 per night doesnt mean you then let people live in a dumb and I do not think you would to live there yourself. We were looking for a home away from home but it felt more like an episode of Survivor. I would not recommend the place to anyone even the adventurous kind would prefer their trailers to your chalets. Remove the pictures and the description you have on the web and put the truth. Luckily i had good company of friends that made the visit bearable."

  "What a lovely, big, comfortable house in which to escape the city with your friends for a weekend in the country! We were actually sad that it was mid-winter as the pool looked very inviting.   "We really enjoyed our stay at Cynthia's country house. Cynthia is one of the friendliest hostesses we ever met. Although we had to share the house we felt that we know her for many years. She even went out of her way to go and show us the river. The house is spacious and have a nice big swimming pool. The view of the mountain is unbelieveable. The duck with the little ducklings was amazing. If you want to rest this is the place. Thumbs up for Cynthia."
