"We had a wonderful time and thoroughly enjoyed the accommodation as well as the lovely environment. Ken was a great host and went out of his way to make our stay as comfortable and memorable as possible, going out of his way to assist us in finding my grandmother's old farm house. Lovely clean bedding and utensils. Great walking trails with sightings of the endangered Cape Parrot. Highly recommend Hillside Lodge, our one night stay did not do it justice."

"Friendly and helpful host, Ken. Very clean and big with everything you need. Great view. We only stayed for one night, but kept saying we would love to come back for a longer stay next time. Nice birding spot as well..."

  • "A gem in the heart of KZN - Hillside Lodge"

    25 June 2013

"What an incredibly quaint little place with so much character. Stunning stunning stay! Ken is an absolute honey, such a great host. Rocco and Marley were just too adorable. The home itself is very special. Lots of character and history and very homely. Really felt like home away from home. Very comfortable. Was so great to see our city kids just let their hair down and be free. Will be returning without a doubt and for longer .... the place absorbs the stress out of you. Love it! Love it! Love it! Love it!"

  • "A hidden gem!"

"This is an absolute must for birders. Hillside Lodge is a wonderful place to go to see the endangered Cape Parrots. They visit the garden daily and perch on the gum trees for an outstanding sighting. The refurbished farmhouse is comfortable and is an incredible achievement for the proprieter, Ken Poynton, who has single-handedly created this homestead out of a derelict building. The farmhouse is ideal for families and MTB biking enthusiasts as well. For a private, warm and welcoming getaway...go there!"

"We found the accommodation very comfortable, clean and well serviced. The breakfast provided was exactly to our liking, carefully prepared from home grown produce. Our host, Ken, was most helpful with advice on local places of interest. Certainly recommend Hillside Lodge."
