The Old Stone Shed used to be an old sheep shearing shed and has been converted into a self-catering unit providing a unique experience when staying in the Karoo.
Built from stone, the shed has a reed roof and is equipped with electricity. The house is self-catering with the necessary cutlery, bedding and towels being provided. The small lounge area has a fireplace to add to the atmosphere and provide extra warmth in the Karoo winters. The bathroom is equipped with a wash basin, a flushing toilet and a shower with hot water. The unit also has an outdoor shower. Fires can be made outside and wood can be bought at the farmhouse at R20 a bag.
The farmhouse is within walking distance if anything is needed and also has a swimming pool where guests can cool off. With all the wide open spaces, guests can go for long walks or mountain biking. Sitting outside you will see the incredible star-filled Karoo sky at night, a must-see, awe-inspiring sight.
"Perfect karoo stay. Interesting historic buildings. Comfortable and clean. Friendly owners (and friendly dogs!) Had the best karoo lamb chops and sosaties."
"So happy I decided to drive the 30 odd kms out of Carnarvon to stay over with Natasha and Stegmanns farm Osfontein. The Old Stoneshed was so much more than just a bed to sleep in. To experience the Karoo hospitality , the quiet and peacefulness under the stars and thoughtful homely comfort was so needed after nearly 10 hours of driving. I highly recommend you stay more than a night as the farm offers a true break away for the hustle and bustle. The unique Corbelled Homestay should also be considered. It has been beautifully restored. I hope to be back one day."
"Absolutely fantastiese. Gasvry, netjies en rustig. Baie dankie vir 'n heerlike ondervinding op 'n karoo plaas"
"What an experience! Authentic. Rustic. Serene. Magical."
"We were not sure what to expect when we arrived. Need'nt have worried - stayed in the corbelled house which was rustic but beautifully decorated. Certainly added to the Karoo charm. Thank you Natasha and Stegman for being so friendly and welcoming."
"<p style="text-align: justify;">We were supposed to stay in the Old Stone Shed but stayed in the Corbelled Guesthouse, what a wonderful surprise and experience!!!!!!<br></br></p><p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>"
"If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city but still have all the comforts of home this is definitely the place to go. The owners, Stegmann and Natasha, made us feel welcome from the first moment that we arrived. This is definitely a place that I will visit again."
"Interesting chalet, nice little touches. Best lamb chops available to braai and buy. Starry skies and great views. Just keep in mind it is very hot in the Karoo although there is a swimming pool to cool down in. One suggestion would perhaps be a couple of more fans in the rooms."
"Had a great relaxing time on the farm! Enjoyed true South African hospitality from our hosts. Will go again!"
"What a lovely beautifully renovated quirky cottage. Had a most relaxing stay and walked everywhere - the outdoor shower is a treat and the owners, Stegmann and Natasha with their two dogs Jonas and Griet are the best hosts you can ask for! Will definitely be back and recommend to anyone who loves peace, quiet and charm. Thank you for a memorable stay!"
"This was exactly what we were looking for. It's a cozy farm setting where you could experience the tranquility and vastness of the Karoo in privacy and safety. It was especially nice to be received by hospitable hosts that prepared the Old Stone Shed in a very stylish and creative way. We can definitely recommend it."
"Very pleasant stay in this very cute cottage! Our hosts were very helpful. There is a 'lekker' kaggel inside for cold nights and an outside shower for warms days."
