Situated on a peaceful small holding, we offer cottages for self-catering holidays and weekends. Enjoy beautiful scenery all around you from the privacy of your cottage in the stunning Champagne Valley.

All our units are different and fully equipped for self-catering, apart from our two Bed and Breakfast Rooms. Look up at the imposing Drakensberg Mountains of Champagne and Cathkin, with nearby access to the peaks of Cathedral Peak, the majestic amphitheatre at Royal Natal National Park, and Giants Castle.

Enjoy the rock swimming pool on a hot summers day or the lovely sunsets from your own veranda. Sheep, cows and even guinea fowl stroll around the property at leisure, and our great dane will love and play with your children. Activities in the area include horse riding, fishing, walking, hiking, white-water rafting, bushman paintings, bird watching, local crafts, golfing, bowls and bass fishing about five kilometres away.

Being just four kilometres off the road that leads into the mountains, we have the best of both worlds, offering total peace and quiet in a friendly atmosphere. In the evenings, choose from three local restaurants or braai at your cottage while you plan your next day. We are happy to assist you with local outings or offer advice for travelling onwards.

"Kindly note that I only spent one night instead of three nights for my booking due to the fact that the venue was not what I expected. My concerns are listed below:1. Change my preferred room and I was only informed last around 17:30 on my way.2. On arrival I did raise a concern about my expectations and I was told that there were no alternatives, however they will see in the morning. 3. In the morning they brought in the cleaning lady and at that time I informed them that we were leaving. 4. About the venue:* Grass not cut* Spider webs* Dusts* Front door broken and main bedroom door not user friendly * Linen was not clean as it had dirty marks. * Lights not working (main entrance globe not changed). * Built in doors broken. * TV only had Channel 100. * Furniture is old, but concern is the that it's not taken care of (clean). * Windows has dirty water marks. * Overall room and surrounding not guests friendly. * When we approach the owner, she was defensive. 5. Please don't let any of your clients book in this place, as it will be waste of their money."

"Had a lovely stay at Acorn Cottages. Lovely hosts with delicious breakfasts by the lapa. We felt part of the family as we took the dogs down to the river and enjoyed watching the new born lambs being taken care of. The rooms are not 5 star material, more rustic which we loved. Felt like a real berg holiday and we had so much to do around the area. The Falcon Ridge show is a must!"

"My partner and I spent the past weekend at Acorn Cottages, in the romantic Owl Cottage. We were sorry to leave and would have loved to stay longer. This cottage is a quaint old-school farm cottage with awesome wood fittings, doors and windows. It is set back in its own lovely garden with a large veranda. There is an amazing rock pool to cool down in. The owners and their staff were always pleasant and very accommodating. Breakfast at the lapa overlooking the valley was superb to say the least. The whole area is beautifully laid out with old rustic cars and old farm equipment displayed to create the right atmosphere. All sorts of farm animals were there to share our experience. Wow, what more can I add to share our amazing weekend ? We left there feeling totally revitalized. We can't wait to return to this lovely farm. George Nell."

"We stayed at Acorn Cottages after my husband ran the comrades marathon. We were looking to relax and hike in the mountains. That is exactly what we got and more! I don't know what the bad reviews are on about! For R400 a night for the both of us, this was beyond our expectations. For a budget price we got far more than budget accommodation. We were warmly welcomed by the owners. We enjoyed being greeted by the pets and watching the sheep and horses roam the farm. The owners kept an eye that the dogs were not a bother; but we loved having them around as it made us feel like part of the family. Skarlien kindly booked us a massage at the nearby spa when we arrived which eased my husbands aching body and treated me to a nice pregnancy friendly massage. The accommodation was beautifully decorated and comfortable. We had everything we needed. The room was serviced daily; and we were given wood and anthracite free of charge for the fireplace. We slept very well in the huge bed; and loved the 360 views of the mountains that we had from the kingfisher cottage. We were kindly upgraded to this room from the guinea fowl cottage as a treat before we arrived. The room felt like a hotel with our towels on the beds with flowers, a scented humidifier, shampoo and conditioner in the bathroom, welcome wine and note with the weather forecast, and tea, filter coffee, plunger, sweetener, sugar, milk and rusks waiting for us. The information booklet was very helpful with details of local hikes and places to visit. We loved the fact that it is pet friendly so that we can bring our dogs along. We felt right at home and were very comfortable. The staff were very helpful. They assisted wherever they could. The stove worked but had an electrical fault were both plates came on instead of only one. This was very quickly replaced with another one without any problem. Thank you again for a great stay! We will definitely be back!"

"The cottages are well equipped and the furniture and decor is neat and well looked after. (the only reason I did not give them 5\5 stars is because the kitchen equipment is a little outdated) <div>The hosts are wonderful people with hearts of gold. They were more than accommodating and even borrowed us their Golf car to travel around on site with our 9 month Son (which he loved!). They have some farm animals that he also enjoyed interacting with and ample grass to have a picnic on.</div><div> </div><div>The site has beautiful views and a calm serenity that all city dwellers crave. It is well situated with many activities within an hours drive (or closer) in all directions.</div><div> I would highly recommend Acorn Cottages to anyone that is seeking a peaceful getaway.</div>"

"This booking was done over the internet from the UK and with no knowledge of the area. On arrival and throughout our stay we would say it was a most enjoyable experience. The chalet we stayed in was clean and well equipped and the whole site was beautiful kept. Location was extremely good. I would recommend this accommodation."
