Mount Ceder Lodge in the Cederberg Mountains is a perfect destination for a weekend away, offering visitors a host of exciting accommodation and activity options. Located in a valley, surrounded by rugged and arrestingly dramatic mountains, Mount Ceder is situated on the main route through the Cederberg range.
The lodge features 12 fully equipped self-catering houses sleeping two to six people, as well as three lovely campsites. All houses are fully equipped with linen, towels, cutlery, crockery a fridge, stove, and microwave. There is also a fireplace inside and a braai/BBQ area outside each House. Firewood available for purchase and a cleaning service is available on request.
The Old Mill House Restaurant provides hearty dinners, breakfasts and light lunches if you don't feel like cooking, and the Curio shop selling the local extra virgin olive oil, kalamata olives. Mount Ceder has so much to offer such as hiking, river swimming, canoeing, mountain biking, and exploring the local rock art.
The Cederberg region is only three hours drive from Cape Town and yet the landscape is completely different from that of the Mother City; it is wilder and warmer, with a raw dramatic beauty. The dominating characteristic of the area is sharply defined sandstone rock formations, often reddish in colour. This group of rocks contains bands of shale and in recent years, a few important foss ils have been discovered in these argillaceous layers. Farmers also cultivate the world-famous healthy rooibos tea, found only in the Cederberg of South Africa, and a visit to a rooibos farm is a delightful addition to a day trip from Mount Ceder.
"loved the nature, not much you can do to improve it."
"This establishment is fantastic in almost every way. Quaint accomodation and fantastic views of the Cedarberg. But oh that meal. 3 course meal, but made with no love. The biltong soup had a sour taste, the beef stroganoff was a tasteless stew. Blocks of beef in a watery liquid, thats not stroganoff. And the cheesecake was still frozen. Why o why did we not self cater with a cabin that had every convenience one could wish for? Overall a great stay, but the meal served for R220 each really put a dampner on the stay."
"The lodge was very clean and the dinner and the braeckfast excellent."
"Everything was above average, even the pots and pans and cutlery. You could put heaters in the bathroom , it was quite cold"
"A great place to get away from the rat race for a while."
"We stayed in Peperboom cottage. The cottage is clean and comfortable with a beautiful tree outside providing shade over the braai area. The cottage does overlook the "main" road going through Mount Ceder so there are cars passing through. The river is great for swimming and canoeing. There are limited areas where you are able to swim meaning that everyone congregates in the same spots. Great place, but perhaps not the best location to choose if it is complete privacy you are looking for."
"Excellent atmosphere. A hidden jewel. Good dinner and breakfast on a wonderful terrace in the restaurant. Very friendly staff. We will come again...."
"We stayed for 2 nights in Taaibos. We were a party of 4 persons. The cottage is beautiful, neat, clean, comfortable. We had a wonderful stay. Strongly recommended!"
"Wonderful cottage, great place to create memories. Stunning views and very tranquil. Would have given a 5 rating if we were informed of all the activities or that there was a file in the cottage on our arrival. Only saw it 2 days later . Great service by maintenance . Beautiful hikes and walks even better as no TV or cellphone reception, which means you actually get to talk to one another . Loved it"
"we were so impressed with how stunning the 2 sleeper cottage was. It was super clean and had everything we could possibly need. Mount ceder is just a piece of heaven and food for the soul. Thanks for a great stay."
"We stayed at one of the campsites - was a great weekend! Each site has a shade-cloth 'gazebo', which fit our biggish tent. Site comes with braai grids and tongs etc. Each site has it's own bathroom, consisting of a separate shower with piping hot water and toilet, each with basin. (Nicest camping bathroom I've ever had). The scenery is beautiful, and the hike to the waterfall is well worth it - stunning. Staff at reception very professional."
"The lodges are situated in a great environment in the Cederbergen on a surprisingly quiet spot with great views. The gravel road from the south was pretty smooth. The house and its kitchen was well equipped, clean and well decorated. The a-la-carte diners served in the restaurant were delicious. The staff was very kind and helpful. Enjoyed the stay very much."
"We stayed in the "Kliphuis" of Mount Ceder Lodge. It was everything we wanted - basic, but with everything needed; a beautiful view of the magnificent mountains; all things "green" - LED lights, recycling, solar power, gas geysers. The access road was magnificent due to being scraped recently ( dirt road). It was much better than the tarred roads in most of the country! We would go back tomorrow if we could."
"We absolutely enjoyed the peace and serenity of Mount Ceder. The cottages are very clean and neat and the staff extremely hospitable."
