"Cederberg House is very different and very special . set in a beautiful valley with a clear cold running stream ,despite the drought ,you cant help but marvel at the beauty of nature all around you . The house itself is very spacious and comfortable and stocked with all the hardware you need and very efficient gas fridge/freezers. solar lamps are provided but best to bring your own lighting or torches as well. Suitable for larger families/groups or a couple . Places like this are rare , we'll be back"

    07 January 2018

"Loved the space, there was a rodent in the roof making a lot of noise every night which stopped us from sleeping well, it would be a great help to guests if that could get taken care of"

  • "Peaceful getaway"

    22 November 2017

"Beautiful setting, between the mountains, extremely private (to a point where we were scared at times). It is safe and the house is well kept and well equipped. Woke up with a bit of a fright during the night due to harmless animals making a noise on the roof. It is a privilege to be part of, an experience nature in such a peaceful way."

  • "Beautiful, peaceful vally."

    15 July 2017

"Cederberg House is very comfortable and homely - everything we needed was there. It was wintery but the fire kept us warm. We loved the quiet and the fact that there is no cell phone signal or electricity. The little valley is wonderful with many possible rambles."

"Lovely and tranquil. Our evenings were spent in front of the fireplace or playing games by solar lamp light. the house is stocked with everything you need. Will definitely visit again when the Berg has recovered after the fires. Luckily the kloof itself was not affected."

  • "Why were we not warned?"

    15 September 2013

"How am I supposed to review accommodation we were unable to access?? The road from Algeria is so bad that we were forced to turn around and seek alternative accommodation. As suggested we rented an SUV at great expense - but on the way to the house the road was so back that my friend, who happens to be the Director General of National Parks for Angola, commented that the only thing that would have been able to get us to our destination, comfortably would have been the Toyota Land Cruiser he uses we he is in the Quisama National Park. Not only did we pay up front for our one night visit, but we wasted petrol attempting to reach our destination! (More money down the drain!)PLEASE REMIND ME NEVER TO BOOK AT CEDERBERG HOUSE AGAIN!!! I find the owners to be greedy and inconsiderate. They must surely to God be in contact with the folks who look after the property to them? This being so they should also be cognisant of the state of the roads. How dare they accept full payment for the rental of a place which guests which the best will in the world are not able to access!!!???????It is my intention to not only raise this issue with Department of Tourism, but also with Cape Talk Radio and the tourism Board and the Argus, Cape Times and Burger!Shame on you Ann! I informed you that I had a VIP with me (the forth recipient of the Spirit of Africa Award) and you cause me to have egg on my face - due to your greed!Yours in disdainful disgust!<br></br><b>Establishment's response</b><br></br><i>Dear Ms Liptrott<br></br>How horrible for you! I am sorry that you had to endure so much and not reach your destination.<br></br>It is true that the Cederberg Wilderness is a place of great wildness both in weather and therefore terrain too.<br></br>Due to this there is much beauty that people seek out. Our guests are recommended to use appropriate transport and to use the Ceres route if possible as it is usually in better condition. The Clan William Municipality does it's best to keep the roads graded however, one solid downpour in that area can change the gravel road surface condition. I remember the years when we had to make weekly trips to Clan William from the farm before the Uitkyk Pass was paved! Those trips really made the building costs ridiculously high!<br></br>I am also sorry that you did not reach the famous Cederberg House as our guests constantly thank us for having put in the effort to build and keep it available for others to share and enjoy.<br></br>There is certainly a great pleasure that I experience sharing this magnificent rugged, wild and craggy, mountainous environment that I love so much.<br></br> I wish you well.<br></br>Kind regards<br></br>Ann Cederberg House</i>"

  • "What a gem!"

    11 March 2013

"This gem was sufficiently remote and rustic for our needs, but spotlessly clean and SO charming. The kids had a ball and we all wished that we could have stayed for much longer. I'm so glad we found this spot and definitely hope to be back!"

  • "Perfect getaway"

    14 January 2013

"We had a wonderful relaxing time away. Loved the attention to detail and works of art around the house. Loved the pools and baboons on the slopes. Gonna be back soon."

  • "Totally Bliss in the middle of nowhere"

    04 May 2012

"My fiancee and I were lucky enough to stumble accross this place and with a little effort to get there, we were treated to one of the most magical, amazing holiday experiences of our life. Nestled in a beautiful Valley, surrounded by magestic mountains, you really get the feeling that you are the only people around for hundreds of kilometres! You can HEAR yourself think, which is rare these days! Well worth the effort, this cottage is pure SIMPLE luxury. GO, find this place, and then FIND YOURSELF! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!"

  • "Perfect"

    17 February 2012

"Yes, it gets five stars, even though there is no electricity, or more because it didn't have electricity. A lovely stay with all possibilities - relaxing, biking, hiking and climbing, for all ages. The only problem that we had was that our car, a Subaru Outback, developed a problem and is currently being repaired because of the bad gravel road. But I must say on our way back to the N7, the road was cleared and a pleasure to drive. So make sure the road is done before going. Back to the house itself - every detail on the house was done with love. The balance between natural stone and wood is perfect. It's nice and cool inside in summer and I think it can be nice and warm with the two fireplaces in winter. Another plus was the river pool - little paradise."

  • "Love it"

    16 January 2012

"I just love everything about Cederberg House! Can't wait to go back there."

  • "Disappointing..."

    28 November 2011

"My friend and I, eager for a weekend away, arrived to the following: -Trash was uncollected and smelled from the previous guests (there should be some minimal service coordination to ensure trash is taken by guests as requested. Bathroom was not cleaned:bits of old soap, hair, old sponge were left, shower unclean. No "swimming pool" as pictured and advertised-just an area in back of the property that used to be a pool, drained of water, and not useable. Road to the farm was almost impassable in 2wd. It would have been courteous for owners to inform us of conditions beforehand. Lights were not charged and lamps were not working or missing glass tops - we were told not to bring candles so we barely had any light. Stove was dirty kettle didn't even have a lid and the extra one was filthy. No access points on property for walking or biking, we had to drive sizable distances to access any trails or go wine tasting, and the phrase on their website implies more proximity: "Explore the mountain streams and beautiful walking trails. Go mountain biking, wine tasting, view rock paintings". Overall, the property was not as advertised and misrepresented. My friend and I decided to leave after the first night. I am far from picky and really enjoy a rustic experience (I live on a farm!). The Cederberg is one of my favorite places! However, to charge me the entire amount in advance and completely fail to service the property whatsoever is unacceptable and quite surprisingly I think, in general, SA has an excellent reputation in terms of accommodation! In my 4 years here, I have travelled extensively, and this is the first disappointing experience. Alternatively, when I experienced the quality of service at Sandrift, I kicked myself for not booking there. Cederberg House charges comparable prices, but delivers very little value for money. I also understand from the locals that I am not the first person to complain."
