This self-catering guest cottage is situated on the Keurbosfontein farmyard. As this is the only guest cottage on the farm, our visitors can enjoy peace and quiet and not share any facilities and space with other guests.
Keurbosfontein is a historic farm nestled in the beautiful Red Cederberg. The main farm house, which is almost 200 years old, was carefully restored as well as all the other old buildings on the farmstead. Many of the traditions of the region are still in practice here and the farm has an old-world feel. Electricity is not utilized by choice. Here you will find old pear, almond, fig and oak trees, some of which are more than 150 years old. The greater part of the farms original water furrow is still in everyday use and only organic products are produced.
Keurbosfontein is within easy reach of a variety of Cederberg activities and attractions such as river swimming, wine tasting, horse riding, San rock art, observatory stargazing and 4x4 routes. Day trips can be taken to the historic Wupperthal Missionary Station in the Tra-Tra Valley.
The cottage is fully furnished and has an open-plan living area with an inside fireplace, a fully equipped kitchen, one bedroom, a separate bathroom and an undercover veranda. Gas is used in the kitchen and bathroom, and candles and lanterns are used for lighting. All bedding and towels are provided as well as all cookware, utensils and crockery. There is a swimming pool with a stream of fresh fountain water running through it.
"Our family of four loved this cottage. We love that it had no electricity and allowed us to cuddle round fire and candles...but we still had hot water, a good stove, and refrigerator. Super clean throughout and very comfortable. Stars were the best we have ever seen- stunning!<br />Arrived mid-afternoon and made it to the caves and elephant rock paintings nearby that afternoon. All of us wished we could have stayed more nights. We left the next day for Wolfberg Arch (wonderful but challenging hike for 8 and 10 yrs olds) and then drove via 4x4 track to Wupperthal that afternoon. (Amazing road and views but felt we should have had 4x4, not just high clearance which was risky choice).<br />Hosts were friendly and helpful.<br />"
