"I was not informed when I booked that the pool would be closed on Xmas day. Maybe this must be highlighted."
"Nice to stay and very healthy breakfast"
"I didn't enjoy my stay at the royal hotel. It was okay and clean. It is good enough for a one night stay, not worth the price. It's a good place if you like vintage and the smell of it but not a place I will use again. The breakfast was also okay. I think the name 'royal hotel' made me think of elegant, modern and relaxing and so I was expecting more."
"We only stayed for one night as we stopped in Knysna on our way in the Garden Route. However, we wouldn't like to stay any longer in that hotel, because of the rooms condition. The sense of humidity was really strong inside the room, despite the fact that the rooms seemed renovated. The hotel in general was an old building, which was an asset. The rooms were clean enough, the beds were very comfortable and thanks to the double glasses on the windows, we didn't have any trouble sleeping. The bathroom was too small and looked older than the rest of the room, but that didn't bother us much as we only stayed for one sleep. The price was really really low. The area around is not that beautiful, but the center of Knysna was 15 minutes away (walking distance) and the Waterfront was really nice, especially during the evening. The staff was helpful, they even gave us information about where we could eat and what to visit, If the smell of humidity in the rooms hadn't been so intense, our stay there would have been even better."
"Great place, very easy to find and well organised reception and service. The best place for value on our garden route trip. It is an older building and has a really lovely quiet open air courtyard wifi was poor apart from next to the reception desk for reception and restricted so it didn't work at all for half our stay."
"We were pleasantly surprised with our stay at the Royal Hotel. Rooms have been recently refurbished and were clean and comfortable. Over the many many years over the building's fascinating history, the rooms have unique designs. This just adds to the charm. The rooms are quiet and a full breakfast is served. Will definitely stay there again. Good value for money!"
"We stayed 2 nights at the Royal Knysna Hotel. It has a quaint charm with an olde world feel, a beautiful court yard with a small indoor pool and gym. However, the rooms were very noisy. We were woken up early morning and during the night by people walking by on rotting floorboards and walls just offered no insulation. The towel rail and toilet roll holder fell off and the basin leaked. There was a plastic concertina door from the bathroom to the bedroom which gave no privacy and did not close. The staff were friendly and helpful but all in all I would probably not stay here again."
"Clean rooms, comfortable beds, very friendly staff day and night, gym new and well equipped (hotel guests can get access also on weekends when it's officially closed), breakfast is freshly prepared and tasty. Waterboiler (and tea bags and coffee) in the room, water dispenser for hot and cool water in the corridor. the car can be parked in front of the hotel. During the night the reception security watches it. (Police station also opposite to the hotel."
"Our reception on arrival was a shocker. We paid for two rooms (double + single) for 3 people. A combined unit was booked for us. Our daughter did not attend in the end, because she developed jaundice. We notified the hotel on Monday and they said they will refund us if they could let the room for the 2 nights. We did not hear from them again, so we offered the room to a friend. On arrival we were put into a double room since the combined unit had a water problem. We made several attempts to see Greg, but he was never to be seen! The personnel was very friendly."
"Had a lovely stay. Staff were excellent. Rooms were welcoming and clean and will stay there again."
