The Ponds Self-catering Cottages

The Ponds Self-catering Cottages are situated in the Drakensberg, with views of Champagne Castle, Cathkin Peak and Sterkhorn. These two quaint self-catering farm-style cottages are set amongst 150 year old trees with breathtaking views of the magnificent central Drakensberg.

Both the Guinea Fowl Cottage and Ferndale Cottage feature two en-suite bedrooms and an open-plan country kitchen leading onto a lounge and dining room area. There are plenty of activities to do in the surrounding area, including horse riding, golf, mountain climbing, hiking, zip lining, quad biking, paintball, shopping, game drives, helicopter trips, and a spa.

The cottages are serviced daily. Pets are permitted by prior arrangement.

"Ponds is a beautiful cottage with a lovely interior. We stayed in June 2015. Central to most places in Drakensberg, Ponds is a nice place to relax. To be honest I was a bit sceptical while booking Ponds on seeing the review about theft. However Marcelle is a lovely host and she made arrangements for a secutiry to be in place day and night. She was also considerate in periodically phoning us to know about our comfort level. Cottage is serviced daily and the helper gal did a great job. There are a lot of books to read. I recommended the place to another friend who later booked both cottages during December 2015."

"Everything was pretty much perfect. The house is nice, clean and has everything you need in the kitchen. It's a big plot, very peaceful and quiet. I didn't see one other person apart from the caretaker and the cleaning lady, both very helpful and friendly. I would go back there anytime."

"We had such a lovely time in this cottage with my partner and friends. The electrical blankets and heaters were just a cherry on top. Lucy was so welcoming and she surely does know how to treat guests. Marcelle was very caring and helpful too.The place is such a great getaway area. Thanks you Marcelle and Lucy"
"Poor security and management"

"Both the cottages available at The Ponds were robbed on the weekend we stayed over. The care-taker failed to notify us when the 1st cottage was robbed nor did she arrange additional security. This resulted in our cottage being robbed later that same day. We only found out about the first robbery at the police station whilst filing a 2nd report for the same property."

"We absolutely LOVED our stay at the Ponds, the people were very friendly on the property (and so were the doggies) and it was very private and just quaint. It was so relaxing and close to all the other hotel resorts, and walks which made it very easy to get around. The cottage itself is perfect for 4 people to stay, very comfortable beds and spacious inside. The cottage is Incredibly well furnished and equipped with everything one needs in the kitchen. The only negative would be all the bugs in the house, but if you staying in the Drakensberg, I guess that's expected."

"We had a lovely time at The Ponds. Very friendly reception on arrival and very friendly dogs! Guinea Fowl Cottage is a real cottage with an Old World feeling - beautiful! The mountain view however is a bit obstructed by a very tall hedge."
