Miss Chrissie's Country House

This is a beautiful country house with individual charm and character, restored caringly while still retaining many of its original features.

We offer nine en-suite guest rooms in a restored sandstone building, dating back to the 1870s. The style is traditional with a classic ambience, some having fireplaces. The rooms each have its own individuality and exquisite linen.

There is also a private self-catering cottage in the garden. It features three bedrooms, a bathroom, an open-plan living area with a fireplace, and a kitchenette. We have a small campsite in the oak forest as well, where you can decide where to pitch your tent or park your caravan.

The communal lounge area has a large open fireplace, and is usually where we serve dinner. You can spend endless evenings relaxing with your family or friends, enjoying beautiful food and music. The pool room also has an open fireplace and a honesty bar. We have wine in the old wine rack, but you're welcome to bring your own as there is a fridge with ice.

The charming restaurant is furnished with some lovely pieces, and is joined by a large entertainment area with a built-in braai and overlook the lake. Experience beautiful sunsets over the lake with a sundowner on the veranda, or while strolling around the large garden. Guests can join in with the farm activities involving our sheep, cattle, geese, feed the calves or maybe learn to milk a cow.

Meals are prepared by reservation only. Reservations are to be made at least one week in advance. Dinner is an additional R160 per person per meal, breakfast is an additional R120 per person per meal. Children under 10 - dinner R80 per child, children under 10 - breakfast R70 per child.

    28 October 2016

"We enjoyed our stay in the self catering cottage for 1 night stop.on ideal for our route home from kruger. Peter brought dinner over to the cottage even laid the table. So nice not to go out after a long day in the car.
Very small thing Peter can you not lower the height of the mirror in bathroom I couldn't see anything but the top of my head. Would definitely stay again. The 1 bedroom unit is delightful"

  • "Most Enjoyable Place"

    16 May 2016

"We stayed here during the weekend of 13 & 14 May 2016 to attend a wedding in Chrissiesmeer.

Situated on a working farm with cows and sheep-what a pleasant surprise and enjoyable stay it turned out to be. We stayed in the "Polfyntjie" room-fully furnished to be self-catering if that was your preference. The room has a cosy fireplace ( ample firewood is supplied on a daily basis), queen size bed, and the most beautiful bathroom with a huge corner bath and shower. We were received by Mr Pieter Strydom, the owner and most likeable and knowledgeable person who attended to our every need. Meals must be pre ordered and are freshly prepared. There are cosy fireplaces in very living area in the main house and a braai area is available. "Oom" Pieter has a vast knowledge of the history of Chrissiesmeer and the surrounding areas with its rich history in the Anglo-Boer war (South African War) and role in the surrounding gold rushes including a role in the gold rush on the Witwatersrand. I have already booked my next trip and this will definitely be the place where we will stay and my Sunday lamb roast is also already booked."

    01 June 2015

"What an awesome place! We enjoyed the farm atmosphere, the country house and the sounds of the farm animals! The only thing I can give a negative comment for, was that there was no frying pan, but we could still manage to prepare bacon in a pot :-) We will love to visit again, hopefully sooner than later!"

  • "Tranquil, beautiful - we will be back"

    10 December 2014

"The room we stayed in was impeccable - spotlessly clean and beautifully furnished, along with a huge supply of firewood, delicious creamy milk from the farm, and marshmallows for our coffee! Oom Piet is a wonderful host and is very friendly, accommodating and overwhelmingly generous. Miss Chrissie's is incredibly peaceful, and is set in a beautiful hidden gem of an area. If you are looking for a an environment where you can bird-watch, search for frogs, cuddle dairy calves and do so in absolute comfort, this is the place to go to. We will definitely be back, hopefully many times over!"
