Boontjies Rivier Farm is a working citrus farm and is situated near the Citrusdal village. The campsite is situated next to a mountain stream, with a section under a big oak tree. Flush toilets, hot showers and two power points are also provided.
The campsite is situated between orange orchards on an orange farm, in a small valley that is very secluded. The campsite has one ablution facility and is ideal for a group that would like to be completely private.
Please bring your own mountain bikes, as the Citrusdal village route runs close to the campsite, which is 3 km from Citrusdal. Alternatively, swimming can be done in the cement dam or the river.
The Citrusdal village is situated 175 km from Cape Town, in the famous Cederberg Wilderness area. The Oliphants River flows through the valley all year round and the area produces a variety of citrus fruits, soft fruits, Rooibos tea, wine and the medicinal herb, Buchu.
With only an hour's drive from the West Coast and an hour's drive from the northern part of the Cederberg Wilderness area with its world-famous rock climbing spots, it is the perfect spot to explore, with six amazing scenic mountain routes to choose from.
"Boontjies campsite was really lovely and the approach through the citrus orchards was a totally new experience, and I thoroughly enjoyed it! Unfortunately for us, it absolutely poured with rain during the night so in the morning we beat a hasty retreat into the ablution block and set up our breakfast table there (an indication as to how spacious the main washroom is!)"
"Our camping trip to Boontjies Rivier campsite was awesome. The grass was short and green, the ablution block clean and modern and the setting stunning. We went in March, so the river was dried up and it was 37 degrees, so it would have been nice to swim, but we did put the sprinkler on for the kids. The only downside (a personal thing!) was the very large spiders that paid us a visit! I would recommend this campsite for the non-squeamish!"
"It is a lovely campsite. The ablutions are awesome! Thank goodness for the shady oak tree - it's hot in December! It's so peaceful and yet conveniently close to the town should you require anything."
