This upmarket country-chic bed and breakfast was born out of a love for the countryside, and the town of Clanwilliam in particular. The distinct characteristics of each guest room, quiet corner and garden space tells a story of relaxation, inspiration, rejuvenation and love.
The serene surrounds of the Cederberg Mountains and near by West Coast towns offer many people the chance to catch their breath and admire whats around them. More than just a horizon of beauty, this magnificent mountain range offers a wide variety of activities for visitors to enjoy including bouldering, hiking, wild flower viewing, nature trekking to ancient Khoi San rock art sites, mountain biking, trail running and bird watching.
We also pride ourselves on being the one and only home of one of SAs most popular tea exports, Rooibos. With an ever-changing silhouette, Yellow Aloe Guesthouse is a mere extension of the beauty that lies in the valley that we call home.
"They are all very friendly, helpful and efficient. The breakfasts were delightful and a variety for everyone's needs. We still cannot believe we stayed right on the main road but our rooms with the beautiful kept gardens in the front were quiet and peaceful."
"Thank you for a great 2 night stay, and for managing to accommodate us for an extra night. Yellow Aloe was a pleasure to enter after some of the other places we had stayed in on our Namaqualand flower viewing trip. The only thing I could fault was the towels, a little harsh and scratchy, everything else lovely. Service was efficient and staff all pleasant and capable."
"Thoroughly enjoyed the stay. Friendly, warm and everything you need and warm. Loved the little touch of sherry in the room. The room in Longhouse was however extremely cold and it isnt always good to have the aircon on to warm the room."
"We had the Cream Room in the main building. It was really big and comfortable."
"My wife and I arrived at the Yellow Aloe on Saturday evening after a day of viewing the beautiful flowers of the Western Cape. Since we arrived late, the owner of the B&B, Cheryl was already closing up for the night, but nevertheless gave us one of the warmest greetings we had received on our trip and found it no trouble at all to make me one of the nicest cappuccinos in the Western Cape. In no time we were chatting away, sipping cappuccinos, going over our map, planing our next day's activities and soaking up Cheryl's warm hospitality and knowledge of the area. We turned in for the night in the "Cream room" which we found spacious, clean and just lovely. After a good nights rest we awoke for breakfast - freshly squeezed orange juice, fruit and yoghurt, bacon and eggs and of course another great cuppaccino! It was fast becoming apparent that yellow Aloe would be a great place to make our base and continue exploring the area and beautiful wild flowers of the Western and northern cape - we quickly booked another nights stay and then were off for another good day in the Cape. After the days adventure, we came back to the warmth of our "base camp" and we're able to braai a good steak that evening. We would definitely recommend Yellow Aloe and will definitely stay here again. Well done Cheryl and Micheal."
"<p class="MsoNormal">Ivan and I had the most fantastic time at your guest houseeven though you where going though a stressful time with alterations you madeus feel very special, you are both the most fantastic hosts. I am lookingforward to coming to see you again when you have done your alterations, longingto see the resolute!!! I think it is going to be fabulous. Thank you so much weboth so enjoyed our stay with you. <o:p></o:p></p>"
"Beautiful guest house, very nice staff! We'd love to stay again!"
"We enjoyed our stay.I thought that the evening meals were grossly overpriced and poor. The room was comfortable and pleasant but the bathroom needed a lot of attention, not good as the toilet cistern also takes ages to fill. Also badly finished and the floor is coming up.No glasses in the room, no water in the fridge.I think that the reception needs improvement and be more guest friendly. There should be daily info on the flowers or local events or sights.I thought that the owners might have greeted us and enquired about our stay.I think that if you fix these items you will have an excellent B&B"
"We enjoy our stop their; the atmosphere was real familiar and they helped us a lot."
"We were in the Cream Room rather than the White Room we booked as there was a problem with it. This is usually the room given to families. We've heard of shabby-chic but this was just shabby. The carpet was so dirty from previous guests that we had to ask to get it vacuumed. The double bed is supported on breeze blocks and the sofa has holes in it. However we could have lived with all that if the air con had worked effectively. Very hot during our visit and despite having it running 24 hours it couldn't get the temperature below 30 degrees, making sleep impossible. Lacks efficient management when Cheryl is not there, which she wasn't until the day we left. Has the potential to be so much better."
"Very disappointed, bathroom out the room. No electricity in bathroom for first night, fixed and then not cleaned up. Had to walk over the grit. Other room had beds stacked in room and staff kept coming upstairs to do laundry. Pity, as it has such character. Breakfast very basic."
"This B&B in Clanwilliam has a gift shop, a nursery and a garden full of delights to be discovered as one walks through. The friendliness and helpfulness of the staff couldn't be faulted. However there was a serious lack of attention to detail, and a thorough check of all rooms before arrival is obviously lacking. We were a group of four sleeping in two rooms - the one room was huge and comfortably appointed and one didn't mind paying R450 per person per night - but the second room is much smaller and didn't even have a cupboard, chest of drawers or even anything to put a suitcase on. And to charge exactly the same for both rooms is a joke."
"Very friendly staff, great rooms, good breakfast - and great restaurants within walking distance. We can only recommend this place! Greetings from Germany."
"Beautiful house with gardens and pool. Rooms are not very large, but comfortable and tastefully decorated."
"Excellent, immaculate, highly recommended!"
"Despite arriving late, Cheryl made us feel very welcome. Our room in the new annex was delightful, and breakfast on the veranda of the main house while watching the birds was a wonderful start to the day!"
"As the Yellow Aloe was fully booked because it was the height of the flower season, we stayed in owner Cheryl's house on the banks of the Clanwilliam Dam. Being 15/20 km out of town it meant we had to self-cater, but it was a lovely comfortable house in a stunning setting... bird life, views of the Cedarberg, sloping gardens down to the dam. Really stunning."
"Excellent accomodation!"
"Beautiful setting in nursery garden. Comfortable room and delicious three-course dinner made by staff. Cheryl was extremely hospitable and went the extra mile to make guests welcome and knowledgeable about the surroundings tourist spots. Highly recommended."
"Stunning little guest house in such a beautiful part of the world. We loved the nursery being part of the garden with all the little knickknack’s for sale. It was very convenient to walk into town for dinner. The room was lovely, huge and very comfortable. The breakfast was delicious and we had a lovely chat and advice from the owner. We would definitely recommend it and will certainly go back when next in the area."
"Excellent service and accommodation!"
"Very friendly and helpful staff."
"We enjoyed our stay here. Clean and comfortable. This is a really nice base to explore the Cederberg area. Our room was huge, with all the facilities you need, including WiFi. The outside garden is quite relaxing although we could not enjoy it due to the rain."
"We had a wonderful time in Clanwilliam staying at The Yellow Aloe Guesthouse. Cheryl, the owner, was lovely and hospitable. She made us feel really welcome so that it felt like "home from home". Nothing was too much trouble. The guest house itself is decorated with style and the gardens are beautiful. Full of bird life. Cheryl arranged a tour of the local rooibos factory and was able to recommend other interesting days out. Our stay here was one of the highlights of the holiday and we would love to return. The children didn't want to leave!"
"Very comfortable stay, Cheryl was very accommodating and helpful."
