  "We arrived and no one was there to welcome us. The keys were left in a box at the gate but if my husband didn't jump over the gate and spoken to another guest we wouldn't have know. There was no wood even though on the fridge it clearly states that there is one load of free wood for guest to top this off the geyser was off and we had to wait for more than an hour to be able to shower.<br/><br/>Very beautiful and clean place but was a bit disappointed in that<br/><br/>*************************************************<br/>Hi Christa<br/><br/>Thank you for your feedback as this helps us improve. Sorry that the water was not hot this is normally on a timer.   "It is self catering but there wasn't one single pot to cook with, we had to use a pan to boil pasta?   "We enjoyed our stay at Alberry cottages. It is close enough to the beautiful town of Clarens that one can easily walk there and back. The garden is lovely and would be ideal for a family with kids. The kitchen had enough pots, pans, cups, etc. to use. The cleaning ladies also came in on the Saturday which was an absolute bonus."

  "The worst holiday I had in my whole life. At 1am ( the 8th Jan 2017) I wake up and saw there is a guy standing in front of my bed searching for valuables, I jumped our bed and chased him to the front door. Police was called in and apparently the thief had the key as I personally locked the door before go to bed. Though the loss is minimal however the experience was traumatized. Anything can happen if kids wake up and confront with the thief. Praise the Lord for the protection."

  "Very happy with the service we received the only thing that wasn't good was the "bed" that was claimed to be in the lounge.<br/><br/>It was a stretcher not a bed!!!!!!<br/><br/>My mother in law had to sleep on it and it wasn't comfortable at all. Friday when we arrived in asked the bookings lady if we could get a single bed. She replied she will see what she can do and call me back.<br/><br/>Until today 13.12.2016 still no phone call!!! <br/><br/>That was bad service!!!!<br/><br/>I will never sleep at Alberry Cottages again!!!!!!!<br/><br/>We left a Tommy Tippy container at the place for my 8 month daughter and also no call to say you have left it behind!!!!!!!<br/><br/>Establishment Response:<br/><br/>Hi Hein <br/><br/>Firstly thanks for your feedback and sorry that the bed did not come up to your expectations. The unit is designed for 4 people, with an extra 2 sleep ottomens in the lounge for families or groups happy to share in this way. A reduction in price per person is given when using the lounge to sleep, as was the case for your booking. <br/>I have slept on the ottoman myself and found it comfortable. We had spoken the week before and I explained the ottomen to you. After your call during the evening on Friday asking for a single bed for the Saturday night onwards, I spoke to Gareth who manages the place, but unfortunately the unit with the single beds was taken. I asked Gareth to speak to you face to face on Saturday which he did, therefore I didn't consider a phone call was necessary, sorry.<br/>I will ask the staff if a Tommy Tippy container has been found and will follow up with you.<br/><br/>I do hope that you will visit again, and again we are sorry that the bed was uncomfortable for your mother in law.<br/><br/>Regards, Nigel."

  "Very nice cottages with full self-catering facilities.<br/>Well worth staying over at these cottages.<br/>However, no-one available when we arrived, had to phone the owner who was out of town to arrange for someone to come and open for us. Upon leaving the next day they had no statement of account for us indicating what was still due (I had paid a deposit). Also no card facilities available to pay with. Please indicate this on the website, fortunately I had cash on me.<br/>On our return from Kruger Park we again stayed at these cottages. This time someone was there to open for us but the next day we had to wake the owners' son to settle the bill. Again no statement of account and this time the balance I was asked to pay was different to the first time. <br/>I think they need to sort out their admin."

  "To the owners of Alberry:<br/> What I would recommend is that you go and stay in the unit (maybe the others too), as a visitor, not taking anything extra with you besides your food and then rate the place.<br/>1. There are a number of windows in the unit that cannot be opened because the latches have a screw missing and if the wind is blowing the windows will just swing backwards and forwards and possibly break<br/>2. The blind on the one front door is broken completely, the cords are broken/knotted if you try and let the blind down you cannot roll it up its broken!<br/>3. Two legs on the diningroom table are so wonky that one bump and the table will collapse my husband and brother-in-law were trying to secure them.<br/>4. The state of the toaster is shocking<br/>5. No oven dish we had to phone you for one no braai tools<br/>6. Broken rubbish bin lid no flap on the lid being an open kitchen the rubbish smell is not very nice whilst sitting in the lounge<br/>7. Three of the stove plates take forever to heat up I ended up cooking our meal on one plate bottom left<br/>8. The dirt around the bedroom/bathroom door handles is terrible everything needs a very good clean - a cloth and some handy andy!!<br/>9. Two toilet rolls for both toilets were provided for 5 days had to ask for more<br/>10. Service as you know didnt happen till after 11h00am on the first day only after phoning you. When you cleaner did finally arrive, my goodness, she didnt have a clue on how to put the bed together she left half the bedding on the floor, the bathmat on the chair weird!! Not good enough!!<br/>Can I make a suggestion to you that you take more interest in your units when people arrive, make sure that the entrance is clean there is just a total lack of concern and it was very disappointing for us. If I am paying over R4000 for 4 nights I expect the conditions to be up to that standard and they definitely were not. I was going to review you on TripAdvisor but see that you are not recognised on there you were lucky.<br/>Take this review and do something about it because honestly I would not recommend the unit at all.<br/>You have lovely buildings in a great location and are not promoting it well at all.<br/>We have stayed in many units in Clarens and have never had a problem at all before."

  "Based on the 4 star and above ratings for Alberry Cottages, I booked the garden flat as my husband and I did not need a 2 bedroomed unit. What a disappointment! I do believe that it is misleading to advertise this unit as part of the Alberry accommodation. I managed to view the other rooms and from a glance, I am sure they are worthy of that rating - but not the flat. It was clean but so basic. Very poor lighting throughout. Furnishings very shabby compared to other units. Only one bedside light. No electric blankets even though these are listed and I had telephoned in advance to confirm this feature. Granted there were warm blankets but then why state electric blankets? Very difficult to control the water temperature in the shower. Toilet seat is loose. Although the fridge looks quite new - no shelves at all!!! No lock on the security gate even though there was a key on the keyring given to us. I accept that the advert did state that the TV available was not DSTV but honestly, the bouquet offered was dreadful.<div><br /></div><div>When one considers that the occupants of the better accommodation paid R300 a night per person and the flat was R560 for 2, it is obvious that we did not get the best of the bargain!</div><div><br /></div><div>Was so glad we only spent 1 night!</div>"

  "We stayed at the cottages as 4 adults and 3 children.<div><br /></div><div>The inside of the downstairs cottage is tired and needs to be updated.</div><div><br /></div><div>Both shower heads were broken and sprayed water outside the shower unit.</div><div><br /></div><div>We were promised wood but even after contacting the cottage caretaker there was no wood delivered for the fire place.</div><div><br /></div><div>The braai was broken.</div><div><br /></div><div>There were not enough towels for the number of occupants. Although we requested additional towels they were never delivered.</div><div><br /></div><div>One of the bunk bed mattresses's had springs sticking out of the side.</div><div><br /></div><div>Although there were signs acknowledging that there were electric blankets available, they were no where to be found.</div>"

It is advertised as being able to sleep 6, but as 3 adults and 2 children, even this was a push. The outside areas were disappointing too. So all in all, adequate for 4 people, but definitely not 4 star"
