Il Castello is located in a spectacular setting overlooking Clarens, with breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. We offer high quality accommodation, full breakfasts and secure under cover parking.

Our sophisticated and stylish bedrooms offer the ultimate luxury and comfort to all guests. Each room is equipped with satellite TV, a tea and coffee station, an en-suite bathroom and is fully air-conditioned. The three Executive Suites feature gas fireplaces for those cold winters, en-suite bathrooms and secluded balconies. We also offer Internet and fax facilities and are within walking distance to many shops, restaurants, galleries and other attractions.

Between the high sandstone Rooiberge and the Maluti Mountains, the picturesque little town of Clarens is aptly described as The Jewel of the Free State. Clarens is situated in very close proximity to the Golden Gate National Park and the Mountain Kingdom of Lesotho.

All year round, but especially in autumn when the leaves turn gold, the scenery in Clarens is a magnet for artists and photographers. The relaxed village atmosphere and the spectacular views and mild climate makes Clarens an idyllic weekend getaway.

    "Lovely accommodation with a beautiful setting for enjoying sun-downers and coffee and rusks in the morning on the balcony overlooking the town and valley. The last stretch of road to the establishment is a bit rough and there are plenty of stairs which elderly guests would have to bear in mind. Not too difficult to negotiate though."

    "We enjoyed our stay this long weekend. The “family” room, however, which turned out to have a staircase for use by the other guests in the middle of the room did not provide the privacy we paid for. Either the owner must consider the area downstairs as “common area” and not charge for it, alternatively, make other arrangements to ensure that the guests who booked the “family area” can make use of it fully. Besides this, food good, enjoyed the stay- probably the most luxurious place to stay in Clarens."
