"very disappointed, place needs serious maintenance. the bed noisy not stable very old, bathroom window is about to fall out, floor in shower very unsafe, patio pillows torn and very old, little bar fridge in kitchen(terrible)no daily cleaning of room. sorry will not recommend Kuriake to friends"
"We would have liked to be welcomed by someone from management, the kitchen stove and blinds was very dirty as well as the deck had sigarette buds lying, other wise it is a beautiful place and we enjoyed the stay."
"We loved the isolation, nature and comfort. Venue needs some tlc but ideal if want to be close to Clarens but like your privacy."
"We loved the peace & quiet at Kuriake. It is very isolated and a ten minute drive into the town. Bed was very comfortable. Shower a little on the small side. Overall, a good stay though."
"Was very neat and clean room, the outside lights did not work for the patio, clean sheets and towels.got everything u need in the kitchen, beautiful view"
"Loved the view and the soft sound of the waterfall in the distance.Plates are too big for the small space and dont fit in the sink, would suggest smaller plates."
"Located along the edge of the Ash river, a hop-skip & jump outside Clarens. The main house & attached s/c units are built high up on a large rock on the edge of the gorge, the views are amazing. We stayed over Easter weekend & were treated to the Lush festival music every night at the bottom of the valley. The building itself is very secure behind 2 sets of gates (with electric fencing) & we felt completely safe. Watch out for the steep driveway onto the parking area. We stayed in the African Shades unit - it was a smallish, adequately-furnished bedroom/kitchenette/bathroom-shower with a small deck. Huge shower, basic kitchen equipment (small fridge & 2-plate stove), brass-bed. Could do with a better cleaning regimen (stone-floors need a scrub, especially in the corners). The other self-catering unit on-site is larger & better-situated. Easy access to the charming little town of Clarens, as well as the nearby Golden Gate park, and other nearby towns like Fouriesburg. Thus, African Shades is a convenient s/c option in an amazing location (akin to a 3-star)."
"i cant believe that you market a place that this for guests to stay in! It is ectremely dirty - Of you open the bed We found the other peoples hair in the bed- an open deck without a prober coverage!-it is disgousting at all!"
"We loved the beautiful surroundings . What an amazing position. Just 9kms from the main town of Clarens and you are in paradise. The views are spectacular. Would recommend a visit here"
"The view from our room was truly exquisite! peaceful and quiet. The heavy rains during our stay created a beautiful waterfall in plain sight, just across the ravine. Would love to stay here again."
"Fantastic, clean and neat venue. Perhaps the best views in Clarens. We were very satisfied"
"It was lovely, we so loved every minute of our stay. And the best part was there was no cell phone signal."
"A wonderful stay. Exactly what we needed to recharge our batteries"
"We had a wonderful weekend in the nguni room... the only thing is sharp knives (so we can make a nice braai, other cutlery and stuff was there) but other that that we really enjoyed the room, the view from our little deck... and having a braai on the big deck (nobody else was there which was nice too... :)"
"Very nice location just outside Clarens, Dougie was an excellent host and even helped us out with a air pump for a flat tyre."
"We stayed in the African Dreams unit, and it was really great. The views of the gorge down to the valley from the deck are beautiful, watched some donkeys and wildebeest pass by in the late afternoons. We made breakfast every morning, and had a braai every night on the weber. The kitchen has everything we needed, except sharp knives, so take those along if you plan on cooking. There is a fridge freezer, two-plate counter top stove, microwave, kettle, toaster and Sandwich maker. The room has aircon for when the late afternoon sun heats things up a bit, and electric blankets on the bed for the cold nights. Also saw underfloor heating, but we didn't use it. The shower is large and really fantastic for warming up when coming in from the cold, with the fluffiest towels ever. The closet has a double packing side, and a double hanging side - take extra hangers if you need more than two. It's close enough to town to easily go in and out a couple of times a day, but far enough to really get the beauty of nature. Everything was perfectly clean, and we don't like people coming in to clean while we're not there, so that (no daily service) worked for us. But we had the best time!"
"Great view. Such a comfy bed!! Loved it. The only small thing was when we arrived there weren't any coffee sticks.. .just decafe sticks and i really need my caffeine haha. Other than that such a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the sound of nature and the pitch blackness at night. :-)"
"It is not the first time that we stay at Kuriake and we have already planned our next trip. Once one has gotten over the incredible view, the accommodation itself is just as lovely. No more is needed for a 2-3 night stay, all provisions were laid out perfectly, the unit was clean, the bed ridiculously comfortable and THE SHOWER HEAD HAS BEEN REPLACED with a 5* high pressure one that can't be beat. We love it there and would highly recommend staying at Kuriake. Thank you again to our lovely hosts xxx"
"The view was to die For!!! The whole place is absolutely amazing and will definitely go back! Had an amazing time and the owners were very friendly and helpful."
"Overall the venue was not bad. Disappointing that kitchen utensils were not clean, and we had to wash before using. Umbrella for veranda also broken and could not be used. For cost per night, would have expected daily cleaning service to remove rubbish at least."
"At first we were rather disappointed to find out that Kuriake was about 10Km outside of Clarens. This should be made clearer on the website without having to read directions. The house is stunning, and is built in a really awesome place on the side of the valley completely secluded from the outside world. The unit we stayed in (downstairs) was quite nice but was really not cleaned the way one would expect it to be cleaned. It was dusty with spider webs. The shower is a disaster. Trying to find the correct temperature takes about 10 minutes because the hot/cold tap doesn't work properly. The shower head is also not very nice as there is a small trickle of water. The deck area is very small. We struggled to stay at the unit during the day and needed to get out to avoid boredom."
"African dreams was amazing, the bed should be changed though. <br/>It was a bit dusty, should have been cleaned better.<br/>None the less, good stay, loved that there was no reception and totally excluded from everything,"
"We enjoyed our stay in the Nguni room, it had everything we needed and more, everything was clean and stylish. The only complaint we could come up with is that the showerhead wasn't that great. I would definitely recommend kuriake to anybody."
"This is a cute spot with incredible views. Although the apartment is quite small, it is well equipped and overlooks a dramatic rock face. My only complaint is that it should have been more thoroughly cleaned beforehand."
"<p>Beautiful views andvery peaceful! It was lovely to cook in the kitchen whilst havingsuch a good view. We liked thewide walls / window sills - very usefulto placeone's suitcase / itemsthere.</p>"
"The decor is absolutely fine but the rooms, particularly the bathroom and kitchen are too small for an extended stay, particularly if you are over 6ft Tall."
"The African Dreams unit is situated in a beautiful setting! Our only complaint is that for a self catering unit for that price there should be a cleaning service included to wash dishes and freshen up the room each day. The location of the unit is good - close to town but also far enough away to feel like you are in the Maluti mountains"
"Awesome place to stay at, very friendly and helpfull service. Will definitely stay there again!"
"<p><span style="font-size: 11pt; color: #585858;">After just returning from a weekend at Kuriake, I can honestly say that it doesn't get much better than that! Just far enough out of town, this hidden gem exceeded our expectations. With truly breathtaking views out of every room, literally....the bathroom, kitchen and bedroom!</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 11pt; color: #585858;">The Nguni unit looked exactly as it did in the pictures, which is quite rare to find. Although attached to the homestead it is completely secluded and private. </span></p><span style="font-size: 11pt; line-height: 115%; color: #585858;">A memorable, magical weekend was had, and therefore I can safely say that I will definitely be returning there someday soon</span><br /><br /><span style="font-size: 8pt; line-height: 115%; color: #585858;"></span>"
"Wonderful place - middle of nowhere with beautiful views of the mountains from the bedroom and balcony. Beautifully furnished."
"Quiet, peaceful surroundings. Good to relax. The room we stayed in (not the one featured) was a little cramped, especially the kitchenette."
"The room has stunning views of the gorge and it was neat and clean. Arrangements to pick up keys went flawlessly. The room is a bit dark and gloomy and with only an open deck, nowhere to relax in inclement weather."
"Stunning views, beautiful room and no reception makes it the perfect place to really go and relax."
