  "The cottages are located on a beautifully situated farm halfway between Clarens and Golden Gate which makes it ideal for guests who want to hike but also spend some time in town. Ingrid and her daughter put sweet touches into the rooms with flowers from the garden and firewood for the winderful and effective fireplace. However these dont manage to mask the sizeable and numerous cracks in our cottage (sunrise), the tired looking furniture in our room the old, unappealing linen or the dirt in our bathroom and beds on the first day we arrived. That being said, my sister and her family stayed in sunshine cottage which was lovey, homely and sunny. They claim to be family friendly, but dont let the kids do the entry in the guestbook on your behalf unless you want to receive an unappreciative email in response. Perhaps our cottage is just in need of some maintenance as the farm seems to be too, but if the owners put in a little bit of TLC and repainted and updated our cottage a bit I could reccomend others to stay here, but as it is, Im afraid Id suggest you look elsewhere for a cosy Clarens getaway."

And the dogs who felt we needed a waggy visit every day! Thank you Selina for logs in the fireplace every night and for daily, friendly service. We loved everything!!"

The cottage had all that we needed for the weekend. Not having a shower helped, forced us to pour in the bubbles and just lay in the bath to destress and relax..."

One of the few places that really impresses. And you are blessed with nice mountain scenery from the stoep...nice for sun downers. Go and relax at Madrid you will not be disappointed!"

  "Far from the Madding Crowd is the title and theme of Thomas Hardy's fourth novel and we found this at Madrid Farm Cottages. With no cell reception and no TV there is little to do but to shut down and relax.Madrid was central for our weekend trips to Clarens and the Golden Gate national park and it is a welcome return after a day of "touristy" stuff.<br />Ingrid and George made us very welcome and the cottage was clean, neat and well maintained.The only real gripe is the lack of a shower in Sunset. I am a tall man and found bathing uncomfortable and inconvenient.Nevertheless, a wonderful getaway for those looking for peace and quiet.<br />"

  "We had a wonderful relaxing stay at Madrid Farm Cottages. The farm is perfectly situated for the ultimate relaxing break away. We didn't hear any cars are city noises, yet we were close enough to town for a quick drive in if we felt like it. The bird life on the farm is amassing.All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would have changed only one thing. We would have liked to stay a little longer."

  "Would recommend Madrid Farm Cottages to anybody looking for a quaint little stop in Clarens!It spoke to all our needs, comfy, homely, everything we needed was there at our finger tips!George Ingrid are superb hosts. We couldn't leave! Just chatted and chatted, lovely couple.Superb views! Being photographers, we were able to spend an evening on the farm (not even venture out!) to capture some amazing images of the farm and its surrounds.We did capture some fire trails which in essence is not good for the farms, livestock, bales of hay etc, but it sure did make some awesome images which we will share with our hosts.Thank you for a lovely stay, we will be back!"

Contains all the luxuries without the electronic distractions (i.e. no TV and phones - will have to bring your own.). Liked the idea of the small, well stocked book case."
