The Sundowner Guest House

The Sundowner Guesthouse accommodation establishment offers five fully equipped self-catering facilities. We have spectacular views of the Sundays River and boasts a deck, from where sundowners can be enjoyed. We are on the Big Seven Route about three kilometers from the new Southern gate to the Addo Elephant National Park and close to the major game reserves in the Eastern Cape.

The Sundays River Valley is home to the famous Addo elephants that once roamed the area freely, as well as mile after mile of evergreen citrus trees that bear fruit all winter and fragrance the air with their blossoms in spring. This area is world-renowned for its citrus fruit production and is South Africa's largest producer of lemons.

We are fully Covid-19 Compliant and have gone through great lengths to be ready for local and international guests and as such all guests must be Covid-19 compliant.

  • "Bed and breakfast??"

    19 February 2016

"I think the definition of bed and breakfast has changed along the way, how this place is even called a bed and breakfast when they don't even offer breakfast is beyond my comprehension. When they say dstv provided they mean that the main house has a channel that they choose for the rest of the rooms on their 14" crt. Only positive were the cleaners"

  • "Poor service"

    10 December 2012

"In general we did not enjoy our stay at the Subdowner b&b. The kitchen was well equipped but not very clean. it didn't seemed clear whether you could order breakfast or not, in this case not. The staff wasn't very informative or service oriented. So we will not recommend it to anyone."

  • "River Bank Delight"

    20 April 2009

"We could ask for nothing better. The Sundowner B and B was, sadly, our home for just one night after our arrival from Kent, UK, but it provided the warmest welcome to South Africa we could have hoped for. The hosts, James and Rienie Dobson, were charm personified. Where else, one asks, will your entire family be invited to enjoy a FREE drink in a delightful bar while a true African thunderstorm lit up the silvery Sundays River and the wooden deck where we sat? The bedrooms surpassed any we experienced in the entire three weeks of our stay and the spacious accommodation -virtually an entire house -- was equipped with all we needed...and more. When we go back on our next trip, the Sundowner will be the first place we book. And we will stay longer, too. Cheers to you, James and Rienie!"
