"After looking at the photos on the Website which indicated patios and obviously a door leading on to the patio, we decided to book this establishment. Unfortunately the door was locked and the receptionist told us that it was a window We had to get chairs from around the pool and walk around the building to be able to sit at the patio. Not on. Also dreadful step up shower."
"We had a wonderful stay at Marino Inn, Friendly Staff, Great Food and nice clean rooms."
"Bedding needs to be upgraded, it is old & our dated."
"Comfortable room but restaurant menu disappointing."
"Did not love anything, drains were stinking, toilet leaking, rooms so small u cannot swing a cat.Barman was useless, food menu pathetic and grossly overpriced.Trucks noise the whole night .Pet freindly and there is rat poison all over the place, c'mon !!???NEVER AGAIN !!!"
"Obviously there are attempts being made to improve the offering - however the stay was not good as some of the attempts being made were of an inferior quality. We could not open the door to the veranda - it was locked with no key available. The room itself was adequate, but spartan. The tiles in the shower were so slippery that we had to put a towel down to prevent an accident! The soap dish was attached to the wall, but hanging at an angle. The toilet was fitted sloping backwards, so using it was precarious! We had a power failure, which obviously was beyond the control of the staff, but they were ill prepared - no candles, the generator was 'broken', so a long dark evening was had by all. All in all, I would not book in to the Merino Inn again."
"The rest must be upgraded not complete"
"Room small but comfortable. Lovely pool and room to run for children needing a break after a long journey"
"We received friendly and efficient service, everything we asked for was supplied and the food was top notch!"
"Good, clean overnight accommodation. Very friendly and helpful staff. Even arranged for our restaurant dinner to be brought to our room. Excellent food! Aircon was great in the room. Only minor gripe is the very thin door separating us and the room next door. Would definitely return."
"Despite have the smallest shower and lowest toilet, the stay was good. Beds were comfortable, air con was welcome, a very good stop over stay."
"Nice place for a stay over after a long day on the road.<br/>Nice food in restaurant"
"accommodation good"
"Thank you for a comfortable stay. It was our second year and we found it ideal for overnight between The Western Cape and North-West. Will see you next year again."
"Meet all the basic requirements. Swimming pool clear, big and well maintained. All staff we encountered were friendly and assisted us. Very nice bar and supper was pleasant"
"Was not happy with the Managers service as he has no business ethics. I had seen braai facilities on the premises and asked to use them. The manager said I could not use them and said he is busy with a function and does not have time for this. Was disgusted with his service. The room did not have a bar fridge which is unusual for a hotel inn.<div><br /></div>"
"The rooms could do with an improvement, the beds and pillows are hard. The reception is welcoming, but that's as far as the warmth goes."
"Worth every cent paid<div><br /></div>"
"It is strategically located on N1 if you are travelling between Johannesburg and Capetown almost midway. It was a big room with 2 double beds, neat and tidy had microwave and DStv sports.<div><br /><div>Considering small town prices are on higher side as I got better place at less price in Capetown and Knysna.</div><div><br /></div><div>Overall not bad.</div></div>"
"Good and clean facilities. Restaurant served good food!"
"We had 2 rooms to accommodate 7 of us for an overnight stay whilst travelling from Johannesburg to the Eastern Cape; we arrived early to be welcomed by friendly happy staff, we were able to check in early and provided with everything we needed for a comfortable stay."
"After a long and tiring drive we were happy to check in to the hotel and managed to have a good rest. The staff however were very unfriendly and totally stubborn to the point where they wouldn't even look up when you are waiting right in front of them at the reception desk. The room was not properly cleaned as we found half a packet of chips that wasn't ours. The air-con is outdated and noisy.Communication to reception was not possible as the phone in the room wasn't working at all.Oh and a warning for people with kids the garden was infested with thorns which they also dont warn you about please dont let your children walk barefoot. No sandwiches are being sold as claimed on the website so don't go there thinking you can have something to eat, we had to again put the kids in the car to go and get some food for them. This place will never see us again neither will Colesberg for overnight stay."
"I will not recommend this place if you need a good rest, firstly we were told our booking was cancelled but they could not produce any proof, we had to wait while they sorted this out. Once that was done they did no care to check whether we were settled but were concerned about us settling the rest of the bill before even checking out. We didn't feel welcomed and couldn't wait to leave the place in the morning."
"First stay at Merino Inn Hotel and cannot believe that we have driven past this little jewel so many times!! The staff are all awesome and so friendly, rooms are stunning & full compliments to the chef for the 'boere kos' menu!! Thank you!! Will most definitely stay there again!!"
"Comfortable stay."
"Staff were friendly and rooms basic but comfortable.Kids enjoyed the cinema room, but would have been good if a selection of movies was available to watch.Dinner portions was good , for hungry teenagers. Good for a stop over. Thank you."
"Comfortable. Pleasant staff. Very good value for money."
"Hotel used as one night sleepover during travel. Check in and out was a no hassle friendly experience. Outwardly looks like an army camp with rows and rows of rooms accessible from the expansive courtyard with HUGE brass numbers leaving no doubt as to the room numbers. You are able to park your car right in front of your room door under cover. This is handy if you forget something in the car. The family room (C-block) was larger than usual with two double beds and the usual amenities that one would expect to find in an hotel. Although the rooms are not as modern as say a Southern Sun hotel, they are pleasant. A lot of construction work is currently taking place on the N1, but there were no noticeable disturbances due to this. Need better signposting as routes are still not available on the GPS. Room service is excellent with a family meal being served for us in the room. Food prices are reasonable, the menu choice is commendable. The only complaint that I have is that the (shag pile) carpet in the room had been washed before our arrival and was still damp. Overall experience is old school, but comfortable, clean and friendly."
"We stayed overnight on the way to Cape Town and found the Merino as dependable and friendly as usual. The rooms were clean, with a decent bathroom and we were able to spend a restful night. My wife left a book a behind in a bedside table. It was found, logged and kept for our return a week later."
"It was good, Thank you."
"Warm and hospitable country charm and manners make this a unique and personal get-away from the city and corporate identity hotels."
