Muddy Paws is a hobby herb and lavender farm situated in Crestholme, just outside the village of Waterfall; on the outskirts of the Valley of Thousand Hills. The little farm comprises just under four acres with a herb nursery and herb garden on site. There is a craft studio and farm shop stocked with a limited amount of previously loved books, herb books, herbal tinctures, teas, herb products, jams, pickles, biscuits, fresh free-range eggs, farm produce such as fresh-cut lavender bunches and herbs (when available) and handcraft for guests to browse. Craft workshops are also held from time to time in the studio. Guests are welcome to book into these workshops should they be interested in the craft being taught at the time of their stay.Owl Cottage sleeps four guests. Guest can enjoy the peaceful surroundings, stroll through the lavender fields, pick their own lavender and generally just relax. For birdwatchers the Blue Kingfisher, Gymnogenes, African Hoopoes, spotted Eagle Owls and Wood Owls are a common occurrence, with a Blue Crane making an occasional appearance. There are farm animals on site such as Daisy the Jersey Cow, Eeyore the Donkey and Hansie the goat. Two geese, a multitude of rabbits and chickens, two Great Danes, and a hearth rug called Coco, make up the rest of the quota. We are situated about 7 km from Waterfall and Watercrest Mall for restaurants and shopping, close to Inanda Dam for fishermen, 40 minutes outside of Durban, on the Thousand Hills route doorstep and an hour away from the Midlands Meander. Horse riding can be arranged, and there are quad biking trails on Butlers Farm just down the road; bring your own bikes. Muddy Paws Farm is the perfect place to use as a base for further sightseeing whilst still providing that country feel - not too far away from Durban by the sea (38km) or shops and restaurants.
"A friend and I stayed here three nights in October. The accommodations are lovely, clean and very private. With the wealth of animals living on the property ... from the two huge friendly dogs to the crowing roosters to the donkey and the lopsided cow ... this is a great place for city slickers to come and experience some four-legged TLC. Hosts Charmaine and her husband are most welcoming We would highly recommend spending some time here. Lyn and Meredeth, Vancouver, Canada"
"We had the greatest stay ever, Charmaine is a wonderful person. The place is amazing and beyond beautiful. Surroundings so tranquil. We are most definitely coming back."
"Thanks for the hearty, warm welcome. I can recommend the place to other people. It has a real farm feeling with all the luxuries you want to make your stay enjoyable."
"Beautiful shady cottage in the border of valley of 1000 hills highly recommended."
"Lovely setting with a rustic farm feel. The patio provided shelter from the rain for our evening braai, and the indoor fireplace added a lovely ambience and warmth on a chilly evening. We enjoyed the morning wake up call from the rooster and the visit from Lucy the St. Bernard/Great Dane X"
"Very friendly and hospitable. Will definitely recommend it!"
"We enjoyed a lovely stay at Muddy Paws. Lovely homely feeling about the place and how spoilt we were with a bottle of farm fresh milk left in the fridge for us compliments of Daisy the cow. Would certainly revisit if we were in the area again."
