Top Spot, the name says it all!
It is situated at the top of a hill, at the end of a cul-de-sac, with views that are simply astounding. This lifestyle farm, a tranquil haven in the KZN Midlands, boasts wide open spaces, hills and valleys, crystal clear spring water, wildlife and crisp country air.
With parental supervision, the youngsters can feed the cows and fetch warm eggs for breakfast. Weather permitting, they can tube or canoe on the dam and the more adventurous could try the zip-line into the dam.
It is gateway to a community of artistic crafters who live a lifestyle choice that has evolved into the well-known and visited, Midlands Meander. It is a never-ending choice of outlets offering art, crafts and treasures in every form, culinary delights whether in a restaurant, coffee roastery or cheese farm. Several wedding venues are in close proximity. It is the home of the Mandela Monument at the capture site and museum
It offers the sport enthusiast hiking and mountain biking trails, several golf courses, sailing, swimming and water sport, fishing and horse riding. Home to the Karkloof canopy tour.
Howick and Karkloof Falls and the Umgeni Nature Reserve are in the vicinity, as is the Karkloof Conservation centre.
COTTAGES
Top Spot cottages are luxury at good value, and you will love the mix of modern comforts and the natural beauty of this country getaway.
Sunrise and Sunset are 2 mirror - image, self-catering cottages, on Clanharry Farm at Currys Post on the Meander route. They can be booked individually or as a single venue for families, (walk through enclosed passage).
We are self-catering - No breakfasts. Howick and good shopping facilities are 15 minutes away. There is a hospital with doctors rooms at the same premises. It also has several restaurants, banks, ATMs, cell-phone service providers and places of worship. The town is famous for its waterfall and at the site are curios outlets.
Several Meander restaurants are within a few kilometres from Top Spot.

We stay on the farm, so we will be there to welcome you. We value your privacy but are available if you need assistance.
COTTAGE FACILITIES:
The cottages are open plan but the bathroom is private. A small lounge and dining area is part of the unit. Each has a fully equipped modern kitchen, with granite tops, fridge/freezer, stove, microwave and good appliances.
A king size bed or 2 singles is optional. Children under 12 are free and are accommodated on a single bed with a pull-out bed for a smaller child.
Full DSTV on a flat screen is provided. The cottages have 3G reception. WIFI is available in the main house for emergencies.
A fireplace (with free firewood), underfloor heating, heaters or hot water bottles will keep your warm on chilly nights. A fan is provided for the hot summer days.
There is undercover parking adjoining your unit which doubles as a veranda where a braai is provided. Close-by is a shared firepit.
Burglar Guards and Trellidoors provide the security in this low crime area.
No smoking or incense in the units, an ashtray is provided on the veranda

It is excellent value for money as the accommodation is very comfortable, at a good standard and contains all the amenities one would require for self-catering! We enjoyed the warmth due to plenty of firewood as well as fresh milk every morning from their dairy cows. Beds were very comfortable. We were able to relax and enjoy the awesome view of the Drankensberg mountains. Will certainly consider going again as well as tell our family and friends."

My son and Fiance had an absolute great time.We were able to pick our own eggs and 100% natural milk from the farm. We were able to see a cow who was pregnant and then we got to see her calf the next day which was a fantastic experience.Rose mentioned the calf my be named after my Fiance Yovanka which would be such a nice touch and talking point when revisiting the farm in the future which we are 100% going to be doing.Thank you very much Des and Rose."

Cottages were clean, comfortable and we did not want for anything. <br/>Rose and Des (Top Spot hosts) were welcoming and made us feel at home. Our children (2 and 3 years) had a blast watching the cows being milked, collecting chicken eggs, paddling in the dam, riding on the tractor and singing round a "camp" fire. The unit was very well appointed with all the usual amenities; comfy bed, clean, well equipped bathroom & kitchen, plenty space to unpack in roomy cupboards...but what made it extra special was the thoughtful attention to detail... Warm winter sheets & under floor heating, fresh daily farm milk for tea/coffee, full dstv, playing cards for a fun evening of canasta and plenty of firewood for a roaring fire.<div>Thank you Des and Rose for providing such a wonderful relaxing space and for being the most gracious hosts! This really is the "Top Spot" with hosts like Rose and Des, the spectacular views, the total luxury in each chalet, with the under-floor heating and as-warm-as-toast bedding. It's just a pity we were not there longer, but certainly hope to visit this little piece of heaven again soon. Thank you Rose & Des. It'snot too far fromthe freeway, however we heard no traffic noise at all and just so peaceful."

The accommodation was "Top" class and is suitably furnished with quality furniture and appliances. Fresh farm milk was a bonus and added to the whole experience. We unfortunately only stayed for one night. But we will be back."

"A heavenly break from the rat race"
20 July 2015"<p>We enjoyed a wonderful weekend break at Top Spot. Our hosts Rose & Des Thornton could not have been more welcome & accommodating, even to the extent of helping to push start our car on the morning of departure, and also phoning for help from friends of theirs.</p><p>Thankfully the car eventually started, so we were able to vacate before the new guests started arriving.</p><p>The chalets are beautifully fitted out, very comfortable & warm (we so enjoyed sitting by a real log fire!). The fresh farm milk in the fridge was such a bonus, and a unique extra touch for us city dwellers. The beds have good firm mattresses & plenty of bedding to keep us warmduring these very cold nights.</p><p>The views all around are awesome, with the sunset & sunrise a beauty to behold.</p><p>We are looking forward to our next visit which hopefully will be for more than 1 night, so that we can explore more ofthe Midlands area.</p><p>Rose & Des, thankyou so much for looking after us like royalty, and for your many checks on our progress back to Durban in our "sick" car. 14 July 2015"We had a lovely stay on Rosemary's Farm--especially coming from the relentless pace and unending bustle of Johannesburg, the cosy cottage with its fireplace, dogs, chickens, and view was a relaxing home to us for a weekend. Rosemary brought us fresh milk in the mornings, and helped us plan our meander through the midlands. For the price, it was more than we could have hoped for. Thanks for a lovely visit to KZN! 11 May 2015"I give this facility a 5 out of 5. A beautiful quiet place of rest with a majestical all round view. Beautiful clean well run facility and Rosemary was an excellent host. Plenty of places to walk or run or just sit outside and read and take in the sound of birds and view of the mountains. DSTV with plenty of channels to watch and a roaring fireplace at night. we haven't slept on such a good bed for a very long time. We've been to many places in the Midlands and this is by far the best and I think it will take a lot to beat."
