The Oystercatcher

This self catering beach house is perched on the magnificent cliffs of De Kelders in the shark diving and whale watching hub of Gansbaai. De Kelders is renowned for some of the best land based whale watching in the world during August to November. The whales come so close to the cliff edge that you will hear them breathing inside the house! The house is located in the second row from beachfront with ocean views and within a short walking distance of the pristine Walker Bay nature/marine reserve with white sandy beaches and large open caves of archaeological interest. Six people are accommodated in three bedrooms, each with crisp white linen. The rooms have queen size, double and two single beds respectively. There are two bathrooms, one with a shower and the other with a bath. All linen and towels are provided. A built in braai on the patio, large colour TV - please bring your own DSTV card, cosy fireplace, and double lock-up garages further ensures a comfortable stay. The kitchen is fully equipped with microwave, conventional oven, fridge/freezer and all other utensils. There is a games room with table tennis. A beautiful hiking trail in front of the house winds along the rugged, fynbos lined cliffs overlooking the ocean. Visit nearby Kleinbaai Harbour (10km away) to participate in great white shark cage diving, boat based whale watching or pleasure cruises to the seal colony at Dyer Island. We are situated 180km from Cape Town, 40km from Hermanus and 5km from Gansbaai Town where fresh line fish is always available at the active harbour. Please note that no smoking inside house, or pets are allowed.

  • "Feel at home"

    31 January 2006

"Lovely spacious home with all the home comforts and a lovely view from the lounge area. The open plan living area allowed us to chat while cooking/ watching tv /reading.The kitchen could use a few more utensils (ie wooden spoon) and pans but the basics were there. The bedrooms are gorgeous and beds are firm and comfortable. We had many barbeques (braais) on the sundrenched porch (stoep). The friendly neighbour across the road gave many tips on what we could do and we did the following:-We drove via Stanford to the dunes and walked to Hermanus (took 3 hours) via the beach (7 hour round trip).-snorkelled in the pools near the coffee shop.-The kelp has an abundance of sea life. -We had regular walks into the nature reserve and investigating the caves.-Marine boat tour to shark alley from nearby kleinbaai-Visited all the pearly beaches, bays, lighthouses and lagoons in the vicinity-Our 4x4 gave us the freedom to venture a bit more than than normal vehicles."
