  • "Very affordable, value for money"

    09 December 2016

"I highly recommend this place, value for money. Very basic, as advertised, so not for the fussy traveller though. Expect the very basic: good bed to sleep in, neat room, fresh and clean linen, clean bathroom although you share bathroom with others. Friendly staff and the free coffee is a plus. Thank you!"

"I will neither stay here again, nor will I recommend this place to anyone. I had a number of bad experiences at this backpacker's. 1) saw several cockroaches in the main living area 2) the table cloths in the eating area were filthy with food stains and smears 3) the one and only plug in my room was broken so I could not use any of my electronics 4) the one night I had to share my room with other visitors, they took the only key with them (what boarding house of any kind has only one copy of keys!?) and I could not get into the room. I was given another room that night but could not get to my bag until late in the night when the other visitors came back. This was most inconvenient after a long day. 5) The rooms were hot as hell after a long day of baking in the heat. No air-conditioning. There was a fan but, as you already know, the only plug in the room was broken 6) as I did not have keys or a remote to get on to the property at all during my stay, I would often wait outside the gate on the road (a female, alone, sometimes in the early evening hours) waiting for someone to finally hear the bell or me calling from the road 7) people on the property would come and go at all hours of the night. When there was an accident of some kind on the driveway of the backpacker's one night, around 1 a.m., the noise coming up from the road into the rooms was horrendous - people talking and swearing at the top of their voices. Zero consideration for the visitors. 8)the final cherry on top of this all: on the last night of my stay, I had the "pleasure" of sharing the room with a woman whose baby cried the whole night. The following morning, she accused me of stealing some money from her - money which I had never seen around the room at all. When I complained to the staff downstairs, they informed me that this woman had stayed there before but had stolen money from another guest during her stay. Why in the WORLD would you let someone stay there again when you know they were trouble before?????This was a terrible experience. I will never again take up accommodation that is cheap because you can guarantee that it is cheap for a reason."

  • "Poor"

    20 October 2013

"Very friendly and helpful staff, but the rooms, the beds and especially the bathrooms/toilets are no longer acceptable. Even for backpackers the quality was bad. I am sorry to say this, but I can only tell the truth."

    "It was okay."

  • "Welcoming, homely stay"

    18 February 2013

"They have been helpful, homely and friendly. When one is at places like Lodges, he/she expects to see a chaotic place and that was total opposite at the Stellenbosch Travellers Lodge. I will recommend it to all my friends who travel to study at Stellenbosch."
