Adama Artistic Chalets & Teepees are situated within the Dinokeng Big 5 Game Reserve, only a 40-minute drive from Pretoria and a convenient and quick 100 kilometres drive from Johannesburg.
We offer two family chalets that are also suited for small groups of friends, and then there also two newly built and smaller chalets, perfect for couples for an intimate getaway. Surrounded by the bushveld and the free-roaming game of the reserve, and being located at least 50 metres from each other and unfenced to the reserve, it is the ideal spot to relax, enjoy the tranquillity of nature under starry night skies and for spending some quality time with your family and friends.
Each chalet is fully equipped for self-catering, and each has their own boma braai area. The owners, Rienie and Armand have put their personal touch to the chalets, and as both of them are artists and pottery masters, the chalets are a clearly reflect their flair for detail, as the chalets all have a wonderful bohemian and welcoming feel to them. The chalets are not only equipped with the owners' beautiful pottery creations, but they are also furnished with their own designed and built wooden furniture.
Although there are several game drive operators in the reserve, there is also the option of doing self-drives in the reserve, starting only about four kilometres from our entrance, and which can be booked through the reserve's office. There are also quite a few restaurants in the area, within a five-kilometre radius from our chalets, where guests can take a break from cooking and book for either breakfasts, lunches or dinners.
A breakaway at Adama Artistic Chalets & Teepees is sure to be memorable and enjoyable, beyond expectations.
"Very accommodating and friendly host, great facilities that is well equipped. Value for money. 'The only downfall was the Dinokeng reserve itself. Some of the sights were closed after driving quite a distance thereto, it is also not very well maintained and routes are confusing and not well marked either on the map or on the road itself."
"We loved the cottages and the unique design."
"My husband, 3 yr old son and I had the best weekend at Adama. Kingfisher house is beautiful and well equipped with everything you really need for a weekend away. It felt like a home away from home. The outside bath was also a great treat! Will definitely be back."
"Absolutely loved the Adama Nagapie unit we stayed in. Fantastic setting in a Big 5 Reserve with everything we needed to be more than comfortable. Excellent boma, comfortable bed and beautifully furnished cottage. Check in was easy and simple, had our own gate key to allow entrance when we liked and whole facility very well looked after. Ice cold pool for those hot summer days and fire place inside for the cold evenings. Really enjoyed our stay!"
"Loved our stay at Adama. Friendly and helpful welcome. Comfy and cosy cottage with everything that you would need. Good value for money. Had Impala and Wildebeest close to the cottage. Can't wait to visit again!"
"Very comfortable and a lovely setting. Saw Wildebeest outside our window. The shower is a bit difficult to control the heat. Otherwise has everything you need."
"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, it's very tranquil and it was just lovely waking up in the bush at sunrise. Erika was very friendly and helpful, the chalet is charming, lovely furniture, lots of attention to detail and has almost everything you would need, they have created a lovely "in the bush" experience. The only issue was a little dog across the road on another farm that just barked for hours, it was far away and not really an issue but it took away from that "in the bush" experience when sitting around the campfire at night."
"The cottage was beautifully decorated and very comfortable. I could have done with bigger coffee mugs otherwise everything we required was there ."
"Such a beautiful, clean and quiet holiday destination."
"This was my second stay at ADAMA and enjoyed it even more than the first time! I would highly recommend this establishment. See you soon ADAMA!"
"We loved everything. Our chalet "nagapie" was amazing and so beautiful. The decor is WOW. The bath tub left us speechless We arrived not knowing what to expect and left knowing we would be back soon. Thank you for Everything"
"We loved every minute of our stay at Adama. Our chalet was clean, comfortable and I loved all the unique pottery. It was as if we were the only people there. Management were always available but unobtrusive. It was everything we needed for a quiet, restful getaway."
"Nice and casual. Loud music on Saturday night from another unit but other than that it was great"
"Thank you for a awesome quite weekend, we had some time to relax and had a nice break from the everyday rat race. Will tell all friends to take abreak from the city. Thank you it was awesome"
"We stayed in Bushbaby. Small and cozy with all you need for a couple of days breakaway. So glad we found this gem."
"Adama is perfectly situated just outside Pretoria for the city family to get away to the bush for a few days and enjoy. The chalets are clean, warm and fits perfect with the bush atmosphere. Kids had an absolute ball in their loft bedroom and personal viewing balcony. We will be back."
"Stunning location, great service and fantastic accomodation"
"Great place to stay, house was awesome. Can highly recommend!!"
"A lovely stay overall and such friendly and accommodating hosts. Comfortable accommodation with a rustic feel and spaced far enough from other chalets to feel you are alone. Adama is accessed right from the road which is very convenient but it did mean we had a lot of road noise with the busy long weekend. The hammocks under the trees were a treat, as was seeing the bushbabies hopping down off the roof in the evening."
"Very tranquil, animals all around"
"Full marks for absolute rustic charm - the interior and overall design/layout of the place just oozes charm. You are very private and far away from the other cottages. Ample outdoor seating makes it easy to get that well deserved sense of being outside and away from it all. The shower is extra quant. Only ting we might want to mention is that some steak knives would be a welcome addition to the kitchen set-up. We saw a lot of different species of antelope wandering around the cottage, more so at night actually than during the day. Crazy thunderstorm the one evening provided some wonderful entertainment. Would definitely recommend it. If you are scared of bugs and critters this might not be fore you, being so close to nature inevitably means having encounters with spiders, moths, mosquitoes and ants - the usual bushveld companions."
"It was an amazing weekend. The place is absolutely stunning and so secluded. It is literally amazing to be in the bush like that. We loved the outside area... As you can sit around the fire the whole night and just listen to the sounds and No one disturbs you...its was an awesome romantic weekend"
"Lovely surrounds, herbivores visiting the house, great drives through Dinokeng. It was really hot and the pool was fabulous. The house had all that we required and we had an extremely pleasant stay. Will definitely be back!"
"The accommodation was spacious and neat with all amenities required. Our 1st night was very peaceful and quiet as it seemed we had the whole place for ourselves. Thanks to both Erica and Armand for your courtesy."
"We really enjoyed our weekend at Adama. The accommodation is comfortable and it was wonderful to wake up to Zebra and Wildebeest on your doorstep. Also amazing to hear a lion grunt in the distance while braaing."

"A weekend of reconnecting and quality time spent together. Simplistic but more than adequate. We will definitely return to Adama."
"It was such a lovely experience at Adama. We stayed in Kiewiet (2 people) and enjoyed every moment. The house is built in such a nice way and attention to detail made it all the more interesting. We were welcomed with some wood for our fire and everything was really clean and comfortable. Will definitely visit again and would recommend Adama to everyone looking for a getaway not too far from JHB and PTA.<div><br /></div>"
"We had a wonderful time. Thank you very much."
"We had such a lovely stay at Adama. It was nice and clean and the jackels were on form in the night. We will definitely be going back again! <br />"
"Every single thing about Adama is fabulous! The house is Stunning!! Every single detail is perfect! It is clean and the linen and cutlery are new. The outdoor shower was wonderful and the basin bath also. We had a wonderful romantic weekend with only the sound of the animals to keep us company. We felt very safe even though the Big 5 was roaming around us. I will recommend Adama to anyone who needs to get away from the city. It is 5 star and for me that is well traveled made me proud to be South African. Well done!"
"I had a wonderful weekend in a cute chalet. I loved all the little details of the house - reminded me a little of "Gaudi".The bushbaby showed up while sitting outside watching the stars. I will be back for sure! Peaceful and wonderful. Thank you."
"We had a great, relaxing stay at Adama over a weekend. Would definitely go there again."
"Despite the rain we enjoyed our stay in this rustically built house. The art and dcor were stunning. We managed to braai in the boma which was great as a nagappie came to visit us. We walked on the estate into Blue Wildebeest, Zebra and Red Hartebeest and identified the many grasses and trees on the estate. Red Autumn grass was a new species for us. Just be aware to take your own towels. An enjoyable anniversary stay for us. Helen and Armin"
