  "It was a nice getaway for short duration. Not much to do and no TV in the room, which is ok if you expect and want that. Its not the most kitted out venue and facilities were basic. If you are expecting self-catering with a kitchen and a fair bit of space, then this is not for you. The walls/thatch roof do not stop sound, so you can hear your neighbours talking and visa versa. But if you are in the mood for camping but don't want to tread in dirt and have a bit more comfort then this is a good option. We had a geyser but no hot water in the shower. No aircon which would be a major problem in the mid summer. Hearing the lions roaring down below during the night made for a great bush atmosphere. Daan our host was very friendly and checked on us to make sure we had everything we needed. Take mozzie repellent even if its dry season! Them buggers are hungry!"

  "We had a lovely stay at Mahalaview. Daan and the staff were very welcoming, friendly and helpful. The lodge has lovely views and we enjoyed hearing the nocturnal sounds, especially of the lions.The room was basic but clean and tidy. The kitchenette was well equipped but a sink would have made it better.We would stay there again."

  "We were welcomed with the utmost humbelness and Daan and Leon were fantastic. The chalets are very neat and have everything you need to feel at home. We were mesmirised with a singing choir of lions, heyenas and jackals right around us from sunset to sunrise. We enjoyed the lecture presented by Leon van Biljon about the lions wereafter we were taken on a game drive and viewed all sorts of game and had a sundowner on the trip. I will defenitely come back to enjoy this all over again and will recommend this experience to all nature lovers. Thank you Daan and Leon for a fantastic weekend."

  "The manager at Mahala view, Daan and other staff were very accommodating and helpful. We enjoyed the lion reading - Leon is very knowledgeable. The sounds in the evening from the wildlife were amazing. The game drive was disappointing as we just drove along the fence of the reserve"

  "We loved the view from the upper chalet - a lovely spot for a braai or sundowners or morning coffee. The top chalet is fully equipped except for a kitchen sink which would have come in handy. Although the dishes are taken away, washed and returned, sometimes you just need to rinse out a glass or a mug and a dishcloth is definitely a necessity. The downstairs chalet needs a fridge. The pool is a nice size and the bar area is very comfortably furnished and clean - the 1940s binoculars hanging up to see even more of the spectacular view is a nice touch! LOVED the lions and Leon is so knowledgeable about them - we were very impressed!"

  "Ongelooflik verblyf met die brul van leeus deur die dag en nag terwyl ons hienas en jakkals ook gehoor het. Naby aan die Dinokeng natuurreservaat vir 'n dag se besoek. Die dek kan groter wees en die lapa se dek was stukkend. Kort 'n lig vir die braai. Met 'n bietjie werk het die plek baie potensiaal. Beddegoed en linne van goeie gehalte."

  "Honestly the lion's were the highlight, they spent the whole of Saturday showing off for us and the presentation and game drive was incredible.The kitchen facilities are limited but it is to be expected and they were well compensated for in the communal areas! The staff were friendly and accomodatinf and all in all it was a great weekend at mahala view!"

  "We were warmly received and very well looked after by Annie. We stayed in one of the Lions Den rooms which was not ideal as there is no cupboard or storage space - all our clothes and groceries had to stand on the floor. There is also no sink in the kitchen. This room would be ideal for someone who wants to camp without the effort of pitching a tent."

  "With accommodation rates being so high everywhere these days, it was a very pleasant surprise to find a place with very reasonable rates that offers everything you would need for a bush break. The talk given by Leon along with the Lion feeding was a wonderful experience, I came away from it much wiser in the ways of Lions, Thank you Leon and Annie - hope to see you soon again."

  "Our stay at Mahala View was one of the most amazing experiences we had! The units are serene and fit in with the bush experience perfectly. Annie and Leon catered to our every need - from Champagne and biltong in the cabin to an amazing experience with the 3 locals (Nikita, Katryn and Rambo) accompanied with an amazing game drive to various other Lion and Hyena encampments! The passion that Leon has for these animals is incredible and his knowledge of Lions is unsurpassed. Ask any question and he makes a point to explain it like only David Attenborough can. <br/>The chalets provide an amazing view of the plateau below with the roar of the lions providing an amazing backdrop for anyone wishing to break away completely from the monotonous and crazy concrete jungle life. <br/>Take your drinks and meat and plenty of ice with and you won't regret your stay. They even have a couple of potjie pots you can use free of charge at the various braai areas! <br/>The pool is crisp and the deck is a great place to have a sundowner. <br/>I would recommend taking with all the drinks and food you will need as food is served on booking only.<br/><br/>Thanks to Annie and Leon for an unforgettable experience! You will see us again.<br/>"

  "WOW. This is the one place that you Have to visit for an experience that you will not forget. From the time we walked in it was the start of an adventure.   "The bungalows were dirty with rat droppings and the toilet and dishes we had to re-wash all ourselves before we could use them. We came home with flee or bedbug bites from the beds. We weren't given dish washing liquid until the last night, we had to wash the dishes with handy andy that was provided. We had 7 people with us, but cutlery and crockery was only provided for 4 people until we asked for more. The rubbish from the previous people was still in the bins (and on the floor). Absolutely Shocking, Nothing like advertised."

The educational presentation Leon presented was very informative and interesting, watching him interact with the lions was amazing. The game drive was also a beautiful evening experience. I would recommend Mahala View to anyone and everyone who wants to escape the city for a peaceful weekend in the tranquil bush with the roar of lions in the background.   "Mahala View: difficult to get to the reception, unless your footgear is tekkies. The room/chalet that we picked was not clean, and it was not offered to clean it. We received a small fridge (which work fantastic) and we received our kettle, two mugs, glasses, tea, coffee, sugar and long life milk. No shelves to pack clothes. Saturday morning, the cottage/room was not cleaned or the crockery was not collected to be cleaned or replace with clean ones. we asked to have dinner and breakfast, dinner was fantastic the amount of food that were dished up in your plate was a lot, but COLD. breakfast was just as great and also a lot, but was the same temperature as the fruit juice with the ice that was placed on the table. the game drive when you see and hear about 15 lions roar made up for it. overall we will not go there again."

The resort is relaxing, tranquil and the roars of the Lions every evening, night and early mornings is spell bounding.
