"What a wonderfull place..close to the beach and amaising hostess, we got stuck in the sand and the hostess used her own car and time to help us out! Room is clean, neat and cozy. Food is great, big portions. Will recommend this place to anybody"
"Baie lekker geeet en almal was vriendelik en hulpvaardig"
"Thank you for the ice' cubes on arrival but would have loved coffee to be provided the next morning."
"It is time for new towels. One matrass in the kitchen/tv room is very thin. We missed the flatsheet on the single bed."
"We will definately be visiting again. Tia was great and helpfull. Everything was comfortable."
"Everything was perfect"
"Neat and clean but bathroom needs make over. Very old appearance. Needs railing for older people to get into bath"
"TV's remote was not working and it was hard to reach the tv"
"We found the real West Coast feeling we were looking for. Apartment was neat. Just needed a bigger blanket for the cold. A braai area on the stoep would've been nice. The lady assisting us with meals and pool game went out of her way to make us feel comfortable."
"Never ever again! There was no welcome, we had to search everywhere to find someone to receive our room key. They also never answered the phoned. Then we didn't get what we booked. We have booked a self catering unit...we only had a kettle and cups in the room. The fridge was not even switched on. There is also no braai facilities. Although there is a braai standing there, we were not allowed to use it. The best thing I can say, is that there is a great sea view. NEVER EVER again!"
"Lovely location and friendly hosts.<br />"
"<p>Lovely location and loved Doornbaai.</p><p>Very clean room. </p>"
"The location was perfect. Spectacular sunsets. Rooms were very clean on arrival but they were not serviced for the duration of our stay, nor were the towels refreshed. Requests for dry towels were reluctantly granted. Food at the restaurant was good but breakfast served too late (after 10.00 only).<div><br /></div><div><strong>Establishments response:</strong></div><div><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: 'times new roman', serif;">Thank you so much for taking the time to write areview.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: 'times new roman', serif;"></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: 'times new roman', serif;">I do apologise that your experience with us wereless than perfect. I would like to give you a little background. Istand in as manager of the establishment in the absence of my parents since 3weeks ago and is still making little mistakes here and there. Notservicing the rooms was one of them. I was out of town for urgentbusiness and appointed someone to look after the guesthouse in myabsence. As running all aspects of the guesthouse is new for me I did notproperly train the staff yet. In the past I handled some of the bookingsonly. It is my mistake for not informing the staff that the rooms shouldbe serviced and towels refreshed. I am sorry. <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: 'times new roman', serif;"></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: 'times new roman', serif;">Breakfast is served from 9am but if our guestsrequire breakfast earlier we work according to their schedule from as early assix in the morning but because I was not in town we had to change the hours alittle for the duration of my absence. <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: 'times new roman', serif;"></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: 'times new roman', serif;">The hostess (Thea) informed me that she was illwith a cold, pounding headache and burning chest a day after I leftDoringbaai. Being a seasonal establishment in a quiet little village wekeep a small staff and she didnt stay at home but came to work to stand in forme. I came back today and although she is better she still suffersfrom burning eyes, headaches and blocked ears. She is very sorry that youperceived her as being unfriendly and assured me that she wasnt feeling welland had very little energy at the time. We usually get a lot of positive feedbackabout her interaction with guests in the restaurant and guesthouse and thereforI can assure you that it was not her intention to be unfriendly. <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: 'times new roman', serif;"></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: 'times new roman', serif;">To make up for your experience I would like tooffer you another two day stay in our guesthouse free of charge (not duringschool holidays). "When we arrived I was taken aback as there is not Reception. We rang the bell, knocked on the door and eventually a lady appeared and briskly indicated we follow her. She went around the side of the building where we signed in at the caf shop and paid R200 key deposit for the two rooms. We were showed our rooms and that was that. The room we had had a very musty smell to it. The TV is very old, the furnishing are average although the bed was very comfortable. Die Anker advertises that every room has bathroom en-suite. However, this is not true as the room that my son had had no toilet facility and they had to make use of a toilet facility in the house. Generally one gets the feeling that not much is done on modernising or improving the facility. In the shower, there is a shelf for toiletries but you have to be tall to use it. In my sons room there were no shelves in the cupboard which resulted in them living out of their travel bag. Although there are tea and coffee provisions in the room, on day one only, if you use any of the cups there is nowhere to wash them up. Also there is no cleaning service so once they are used that is that.We went next door to the Cabin Restaurant. The sign said it was open. Inside there was no one, so we went next door to the bar. Again no one. My son called out and someone shouted that they would be there shortly. After waiting another five minutes there was still no service so we departed. Because of this we did not go back to The Cabin again. Needles to say we travelled to 7km or so to Sandfontein for supper. On the morning of the last day there was no water. After about 30 min I went to the caf to enquire about the water situation. I was informed that the water for Doringbaai had been cut and they had no idea when it would be turned back on again. I would imagine that it would have been the right thing for the owner to come round to each unit and inform the tenants of the situation and to at least offer some form of assistance to flush the loo.I cannot say that I am impressed with Die Anker and find it hard to understand why they are a 3 star graded facility."
"We had booked self-catering accommodation for 4 days for the last week August 2014 at the Guest House and on seeing the photographs on the internet (shown here) we were looking forward to staying here but on arrival we were told that there is no sea view accommodation available and we were taken to a room at the back of the house, called "Bamboesie", which was surrounded by concrete walls and buildings. it was a cold, damp smelling, dingy room with low ceiling and with a dirty mat in the door which seemed to us to originally have been the servants quarters and it was also priced at the same rate as the front sea view rooms. We told the owner that we are not willing to stay in such circumstances and that we were going to look for alternative accommodation. Having paid a deposit of R1300 and also the balance of a further R1300 on arrival before seeing the room the owner refunded the balance but made no offer an the deposit amount. We gladly gave up the deposit and fortunately found the most beautiful accommodation not 500 meters down the road with wonderful sea view at an even cheaper rate. My advice is to check the actual room you are booked into before making the final booking as the other accommodation at Die Anker seems reasonable although pricey."
"We loved the beauty and quietness of the town and were very impressed with Die Anker. The accommodation was great, the owners and staff were wonderful and the food was beyond delicious. Have recommended to many already."
"They had a great time and will recommend it!"
"The accommodation was very neat and comfy. Beautiful rooms! The owner was sooo friendly and sweet. She really goes out of her way to make you feel welcome. Just a pity we couldn't stay longer but we'll definitely be back."
