  • "The accommodation as a whole was real value for money"

    28 May 2023

"Improvement could be made with the coal fired fireplace as it is very difficult to get going and also to keep burning. The dam is also weeded up making fishing extremely challenging and the trees surrounding the dam need to be cut back."

  • "Lake Heron - Stary Krowa"

    17 July 2017

"We really enjoyed our stay at Lake Heron. The Stary Krowa cottage has a nice view of the lakes and was well equipped. The dirt road is quite long unfortunately. The best part was that we could take our two dogs who had a ball!"

  • "The beautiful surroundings"

    22 March 2017

"It was great, really relaxing and comfortable. A few things are needed like curtains in the bedrooms and an extra couch in the lounge but the kitchen was beautiful and the bathroom too. There is no cleaning service provided. The beds and cushions were extremely comfortable as well. The property is very animal friendly and there are many farm animals there. Dullstroom is about twenty km's away and is a very nice quaint town. A big problem is the quality of the road to Lake Heron."

  • "Beautiful area but disappointing accommodation"

    02 March 2017

"We previously stayed at the San-Solina cabin, which was great. This time we were allocated the Maly Fisher - a "cosy two sleeper cottage". My feeling is that there are definite areas that need attention, particularly when you are being charged R1300 a night. The cottage is tiny and smack in the middle with no curtains on the open plan lounge/kitchen windows, which means you feel like you are in a fishbowl with people looking in as they walk past. The kitchen utensils are sparse at best - one teaspoon was provided - and considering the place is not serviced, this means constant washing of the one teaspoon and two mugs. The braai grate was filthy and still had half a mouldy lemon on it and the braai was so full of ash that we had to empty it before it was usable. The "bathroom" is a bit of a joke, being basically a toilet and shower squashed between the kitchen and bedroom, with not even a door between it and the bedroom. The other units are bigger and more comfortable - but you are charged the same, which seems crazy. Maybe time to consider charging half of what you charge for the other two cabins? Great pity because the farm and surroundings are beautiful."

  • "EXCELLENT"

    26 September 2016

"We had a wonderful stay at Lake Heron - its a beautiful spot and great for the kids and dog to play and have some freedom to explore in safety.<br/>The accommodation is comfortable and the fireplaces and electric blankets make it cozy on those chilly evenings Dullstroom is renowned for!"

  • "What a disappointment"

    18 July 2016

"We were booked in <strong>San-Salina Cabin</strong>. When we arrived, we were informed SafariNow made a wrong booking. The beautiful cabin on the website was not for us, but already occupied. Instead we were put into a very small cabin that is not even on their website. Our view was not the lake, but a scrapyard. The lake could only be seen through the small window of our room. It was bitterly cold, and when trying to shower, the water was ice cold. Sunday morning they said somebody forgot to switch on the pump. Not even a blanket to sit under in the tiny sitting room. One positive thing: the little cabin was clean. A romantic weekend was turned into a nightmare. Never again, Lake Heron. Misleading advertising. Not worth R1 300."

"<p>We can not wait to return to this wonderful place. The accommodation was stunning! We were even treated with wine, sherry and a cheese board!<br></br></p><p>Frank and his team is very helpful and made us feel right at home. Even our dogs that went along felt like they were home and enjoyed the open spaces to run.<br></br></p><p>The fishing was also great. Can't wait to return to try and catch some of the "submarine" trout there. :)</p>"

  • "Lovely Lake Heron"

    10 March 2014

"We were fortunate enough to spend a blissful weekend in paradise. Lake Heron is the ultimate secluded break-away, silence broken only by the sounds of nature in the evening and the fish eagle early morning. The cottage is quaint and lovely with all one could need. The fire places make for a warm cosy atmosphere on a cold rainy weekend. The setting is absolutely breath taking and the experience one to remember! We will be back for sure!"
