Beach Haven Farm Cottage

Elands Bay is a quaint fishing village also famous for its surfing, exquisite seafood and crayfish in season. The town is situated at the mouth of the Verlorenvlei, which is a beautiful wetland and important birding area and is a Ramsar Protected World Heritage Site.

Beach Haven Farm Cottage is a farm-style cottage nestling below the dune on a 2 km beachside farm. The cosy cottage features five large bedrooms, all with bedding and towels provided, as well as a large living area. The lounge area is comfortably furnished with ample seating space and leads into the kitchen which has all the modern facilities including all cutlery and crockery. The house also has a separate dining room along with an indoor fireplace or braai along with an outdoor braai area. The lounge has French doors that lead you out to a patio and a walkway that will lead you over the dune to the beach. There are two bathrooms to share, one has a shower, basin and toilet and the other has a bath, basin and toilet.

The beach cottage is in a peaceful environment with plenty of bird, animal and marine life. From sugar birds, bat-eared foxes to wild buck grazing in the distance. The endless beach offers breathtaking sunset walks and guests can also enjoy whale and dolphin spotting over the Atlantic Ocean.

From the front of the cottage you have majestic views of the mountains and fynbos that goes on for miles around you. The property is fenced in with a large green lawn and indigenous vegetation in front, which flows to meet the fynbos after the fence. At the back of the cottage there is a wooden walkway which leads you over the dune to the beach. At night the sky becomes a stargazer's dream and one is able to clearly see the Milky Way and the various star constellations as well as satellites orbiting the earth.

There are numerous good birding sites. Notable species include African Fish Eagle, Blue Crane, Purple Gallinule, Eastern White Pelican, African Spoonbill, Cape Shoveller, Goliath and Purple Herons, which breed in this area.

The Bobbejaan Mountains have produced valuable archaeological finds and superb examples of Khoi San rock art at Elands Cave.

"It's a very nice place, but I think it needs a bit more work, I also think that there should just be mentioned that the water is not drinkable there. I also just think that the service could have been a little better in terms of keeping the guests happy as we were there for 10 days and the towels and drying cloths was only washed on the 5th day of our stay and it being so humid and warm. I think for the money we paid we could have gotten a worker every second day maybe just to clean and wash the towels ect. but other than that the stay was very nice, thanks"

"Not what I have expected. I suggest they finish the place completely ie- plugs in all bedrooms, cupboards in bedrooms. This is sufficient for an overnight stay but not for a long holiday (in my opinion)."
