Southern Skies Elands Bay

Southern Skies is a spacious, comfortable holiday home which is perfectly positioned on the beachfront in Elands Bay. It has uninterrupted views of the famous left-point break and white sand dunes, the magnificent estuary of Verloren Vlei to the East and Bobbejaans Kop to the West.

Behind the house are majestic views of the mountain and the nesting ground of a pair of black eagles. Above is the African sky which is clear and a stargazer's dream at night. The house is fully furnished with two kitchens, a dining area, a living room, six bedrooms, four bathrooms and two wind-free, covered verandahs. There are braai facilities upstairs and downstairs and undercover parking for two vehicles. The property is fenced in with a large green lawn and indigenous vegetation in front, which meets the fynbos at the fence and flows onto the river bank and beach.

Elands Bay is a west coast wonderland, with so much to offer in natural beauty, as well as bird-, animal- and marine life. From Sugar birds and Kingfishers to Black Eagles, Dassies and Bat-eared foxes. Whales, seals, dolphins and porpoises often visit the bay.

Cuisine which can be gathered from the sea includes a variety of fish, mussels, crayfish and clams. Recreational activities include stand-up paddle boarding, kiting, windsurfing, surfing, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, cycling, mountain biking, dune boarding, beach combing, hiking, bird watching, stargazing and the magnificent Namaqualand flowers and fynbos. There is a jetty for launching boats into the sea, but no motorised craft are permitted on Verloren Vlei.

The best thing about the west coast is the ever changing scenery. Everyday is unique, with nature putting on a new show for you to sit back and enjoy or to seize the moment and venture into the sea onto the mountain or just walk on the soft white sand for miles.

"We recently stayed at Southern Skies Self Catering accommodation as a group of 3 families. It was large and spacious and was ideal as a large group getaway spot!The place is located a right on the beachfront where the lagoon/vlei and the ocean meet. Unfortunately due to the drought in the western cape the Vlei was very dried up but this did not not spoil the gorgeous view. Waking up at 05:30/6am was not bad as one had this amazing view with sunrise to wake up to! The place is spacious and ideal for children. Large enclosed garden and a jungle gym in the back kept our little entertained and made Easter Egg hunting on Sunday morning all the more better; as well as a skate half-tube (which was used by neighborhood kids... for our kids were to young.)The owner was kind to advise us that none of the units had TVs but this did not bother us at all - as we wanted an 'offline' 'TV free' weekend anyway.The accommodation is pet friendly so our Corgi was able to come along and enjoy the Easter weekend away with us.Our only 'complaint' would be that the stoves were old and inconsistent - making cooking/baking a challenge and burning food a few times. The sliding doors by the bottom unit were difficult to open and close. Overall we loved our stay and would recommend this accommodation to anyone who is looking for an unpretentious relaxed beach getaway!"

"This is an amazing spot...we stayed in the lovely light filled upstairs apartment with glorious wraparound views of the beach and vlei. The surfers in the group were thrilled with having to just look out the window for a surf report at the legendary left hand point. The short stroll to the beach was amazing and the pool table and tennis table were well used. A great spot for families with little ones, teens or a bunch of friends. We will definitely be coming here again."

"We had a group of 16 booked out all 3 units. Enjoyed the stay and view very much. What could be improved is the following: Make sure all lights are working as roghfly 5 lights were not working with burnt globes. The balcony has no lighting around the table area at least my camping gear came handy at this time. The same with the bottom unit only one light but I had brought extention leads and lights to sort this area out. The top balcony could do with a retractable awning of some sort as besides the one umbrella you cant block out the sun. This is entirely good points to rectify as it would help the establishment and future guests. Furthermore we would go back."

"This is the perfect spot for anyone going to Elands Bay to surf (is there any other reason?), especially if you are not the one surfing. It is right on the point where the break is and has an open wall of glass to the sea. In bad weather, you can just close up and watch the horizon. Take all your own food etc, because there really isn't much choice in the town itself. The hotel does basic breakfasts and meals, but it's not exactly a bustling hub. But if you are stocked up and in this house, no need to go anywhere except the beach.<br />"

"Elands is beautiful but it is not soft as it is the dry west coast. Thus having a haven to retreat into (with a lovely view of the point) after a lovely surf, walk on the dunes/ down the beach or swim in the sea makes it paradise. This is what Southern Skies was for us. It has everything a surf haven at this classic left point break should have and also is not pretentious so you really feel like you can relax."

"Southern Skies offers one amazing views, total peace and tranquillity. We occupied the top floor unit being 4 adults and found the facilities to be wonderful. The bathrooms were lovely and in adding hand wash, towels, etc provided that little extra touch. A very airy and light home making one feel welcome from the moment you set foot inside. Loved the way you could lock the balcony for extra security. Would not hesitate to recommend or visit again."
