Dlinza Forest Accommodation

Dlinza Forest Accommodation is situated in the historical town of Eshowe in Zululand, KwaZulu-Natal. Eshowe is located1.5 hours from the city of Durban. A warm Zululand welcome awaits you, where Alan and Bev will be your hosts and where your comfort is a priority.

There are four unique, tastefully furnished self-catering, fully-equipped log cabins set in a tranquil garden bordering the Dlinza Forest, where abundant birdlife abounds. Each cabin consists of an open-plan kitchen, seating area and bedroom, with a bathroom leading off the main area. All cabins have a covered patio and barbecue facilities, and secure parking is available.

The edge of our garden is the beginning of the 250 hectare indigenous Dlinza Forest, one of the many beautiful forests in Zululand. The forest is easily accessible and is currently visited by birdwatchers from all over the world hoping to catch a glimpse of rare bird species, such as the Spotted Ground Thrush or the Eastern Bronze-naped Pigeon. The forest echoes with the calls of Trumpeter Hornbills, Purple-crested Turacos, and Narina Trogons - as does our garden.

The Dlinza Forest has an impressive 125 m aerial boardwalk, at an elevation of 10 m which allows visitors to walk right under the canopy of Dlinzas indigenous scarp forest, culminating in a 20 m observation tower with breathtaking views. The walkway, which is wheelchair friendly, provides intimate access to 65 bird and 85 butterfly species, as well as to small mammals such as blue duiker, bush pigs, and bush babies.

Shakaland, famous for depicting Zulu culture, is in close proximity to Eshowe as well as various museums, battlefields, and the Phobane Dam for bass fishing. The Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Park containing the Big 5 is also only an hours drive away, and Eshowe is situated 25 km inland from the warm Indian Ocean.

We offer a warm and friendly welcome and a peaceful place to stay and relax, away from the stress of daily life. Whether it is bird or butterfly watching, rambling through the forest, fishing at nearby dams, or if you just want to spend a quiet few days with your feet up, Dlinza Forest Accommodation is just the place for you. We are also an ideal stopover for the businessman as we are only 2 km from the centre of town.

  • "The warm hospitality and the peace and quiet that the accommodation afforded me was excellent."

  • "Dlinza Forest Accomodation"

    30 September 2018

"I came to Eshowe to experience the aerial boardwalk and decided to stay at the Dlinza Forest Accomodation which is just a quick 400m walk from the attraction. Added benefit is that if you stay at this establishment you need only pay once for your entrance to the boardwalk. The accommodation is made up of 4 logcabins in a garden setting with undercover parking and braai facilities. The cabin is open plan and relatively spacious as far as selfcatering cabins go although I would be inclined to dispense with the dusty artifical flowers and would repair the crack in the wall behind the bed. Never before I have been called by an establishment and asked to arrive early as the host wanted to play club bowls at 9.30am. Just as well I had left Durban early and was able to get to Eshowe in time. Then to my dismay that evening I was called at 8.20pm to be reminded to pay the balance of the bill as the host would be leaving by 8.30am on Sunday morning. It was not as if I had forgotten that I needed to do that but considering that my host was neither seen nor heard of all day until his phonecall it made doing that necessary admin a little difficult. The establishment further only makes provision for cash or eft so ensure you are prepared. So instead of enjoying a leisurely morning, I got up early, washed up the dishes, made the bed and left by 7.00am because I did not feel very comfortable with a missing host whose own weekend agenda was more important than the business generated from paying guests. This coupled with the noise of passing trucks during the night spoiled my experience somewhat. I am sad to say that I will stay elsewhere the next time I go to Eshowe."

  • "Lovely spot outside of the hustle and bustle of town"

    22 April 2016

"Thank you to our hosts Bev and Alan - your notes about water interruptions and power outages (something beyond your control) were very considerate! What a lovely place you have - waking up to the sounds of the birds in your beautiful gardens (and in the neighbouring forest) was a pleasure. I only wish I'd taken a short walk to the bird hide every morning! <br />"

  • "TOP ATTENTION TO DETAIL"

    10 March 2016

"What a lovely place to stay!<br /><br />The hosts Bev and Allan were so friendly and helpful.&nbsp; There is nothing they haven't thought of, from fans and heaters to little portions of breakfast cereal.&nbsp; And most importantly, a little bottle of milk (instead of those hateful minute pyramid-shaped cartons supplied in hotels!)<br /><br />The garden was immaculate, and the cabin absolutely spotless, with beautiful linen.<br />Security was top-notch<br />Situated right at the entrance to the Dlinza Forest made it so convenient. I was privileged to spot a Narina Trogon on our first drive through the forest.<br />What a pleasure to arrive at a place that exceeds your expectations in every way.<br /><br />"
