  • "Needs a serious upgrade"

    18 November 2018

"Firstly they did not expect us. We had no water, had to ask to get ot switched on. At 30 plus degrees no fan was supplied. Blinds in room need a drastic upgrade. In general the place as a whole needs to be more welcoming. The view of the mountains is stunning. It's peaceful, would be lovely if only it was looked after"

  • "The peacefullness"

    02 June 2017

"The stay was very nice, we enjoyed the quietness and the beautiful view. We had our own privacy which we enjoyed.A few small things could be improved such as knives being sharpened and the water pressure to be a bit better as we were 4 people but only had enough water for 2.We will definitely visit Mara Farm again."

  • "Great place to relax!"

    04 January 2015

"We spent a wonderful, relaxing week at Mara Farm over Christmas. Enjoyed some lovely walks, amazing stargazing, and many happy hours under the cool thatched lapa!"

  • "Comfortable family stay."

    06 May 2014

"The house is a lovely large farmhouse, with more than enough space for a large family to spend time together. We enjoyed the lapa area to braai and the children enjoyed the large grassed area to play. The negative side is that the house definitely needs a good spring clean. The large kitchen is lovely to work in, but everything had to be washed before it could be used. Lots of cobwebs and dust in the house."

  • "Mara Farm"

"Very enjoyable 3 day stay. Accommodation good, hosts Steve and Sally very accommodating. Thank you."

  • "The Lubbe family stay at Mara Farm"

    30 June 2013

"We stayed at Mara Farm from 22 June 2013 to 29 June 2013 in the main house. The main house is an amazing old farm house with 4 bedrooms. All the bedrooms are very large with excellent decor and bedding. The warm electric blankets removed the cold from our bodies. The kitchen was average fitted and very large (the toaster was faulty and did not work). The large combined dining room and lounge was very pleasant. The small fireplace was well positioned and we spent most of our early evening hours in front of the fire! The lapa is well fitted with a weber braai and a gas braai. We were supplied with a constant flow of wood without any failure. Three out of the four bedrooms had their own bathroom with showers. There was another separate bathroom with a bath. Plus another guest toilet. All the bedrooms had no build-in cupboards, but this did not bother us at all. All-in-all it is an amazing place to spend a winter holiday. We used Mara Farm as a central base from where we visited Clarens, Golden Gate, Harrismith, Ficksburg as well as Lesotho (AfriSki and Katse dam). It is a great place to stay with value for money. Our hosts, Steve & Sally, are friendly and made us feel very comfortable and at home away from home. We will most definitely return to Mara Farm and will recommend it to anyone."

  • "Beautiful"

    30 March 2013

"Absolutely beautiful surroundings. One of the nicest places I've visited in the Eastern Freestate. Convenient location, not far from Clarens. Sally and Steve warm and welcoming. Enjoyed the stay despite the weather."

  • "Lovely place"

    19 November 2012

"Sally and Steve were really welcoming and the views are to die for. Peace and quiet, feel really rested. Not for people who do not like animals. The accommodation was luxury for us as we are hardened campers in tents sleeping on the ground, but adequate for anyone who wants to self cater. Thanks a lot for sharing this lovely place with us."

  • "Interesting"

    07 September 2009

"Colin was welcoming, interested, interesting and a mine of information re the area, its culture, and its people. Commendable. The owners were not present. Accommodation was adequate. The road to the establishment is more suited to a 4 x 4 rather than a modern-day sedan. The artwork on the advert is of the main house, not the "cottage" - a little misleading, I feel."
