Pumula is a working farm 7km outside Fouriesburg in the Eastern Free State highlands.
The self-catering accommodation consists of three chalets and three apartments. The units are fully equipped. Communal facilities include an outdoor swimming pool and steam bath.
The region boasts fantastic scenery, many various outdoor activities and Anglo Boer War history. It is situated south of Bethlehem and on the border with Lesotho. Lesotho is well known for the Highlands Water Project, and a tour of the Katsi dam wall is a must. Go skiing at AfriSki in winter, or just play around in the snow. It is a twenty minute drive from Clarens.
Experience the silence, open space and the big sky. Indulge again in the basics of life. Slow down, allow yourself to do nothing and enjoy it. Children can roam, run, ride behind the tractor and fish with hand-lines in the dam. Bring along a bicycle to taste the dust and become one with nature.
"Loved the Farm, glad there were enough wood for the indoor fire!! Sad the owner sold but hopefully the new owner will continue in the same recipe of good value for money. The Freestate must improve their roads or they will lose what little tourist they have.I would recommend friends for a weekend away at this lodge."
"We enjoyed our stay at Pumula. Stayed in apartment 3 and it was great and really quiet. There were a few minor draw backs when we arrived, like a small blood stain on the sheets and the pots and dishes weren't very clean, while we also had to wash out the bath and shower.<div><br /></div><div>Though overall, we really enjoyed the time there, and the fact that you have a beautiful view and you can switch off from the hustle and bustle of work life, really helped.</div>"
"It was the most wonderful place to go and unwind. From the kitchen to the steam bath, we would definitely return!"
"We were a party of 9 and the beer festival was on! Even so, everything at Pumula was immaculately arranged, the houses are neat, fully equipped, and the farm eggs a treat. Guilletta was available at all times to attend to minor requests. For me it was a memorable birthday weekend. I will recommend Pumula to my friends and family."
"Excellent stay. Farm location perfect, peaceful and clean. Wonderful surroundings. We were 8 very happy guests. Thank you Guilleta"
"Thank you for a wonderful weekend. Everything was perfect."
"Thanks to Guiletta and her team. We had a wonderfully relaxing time. Nice touches with the daily prepared fires, fresh eggs, milk and lovely rusks. Sunsets were awesome."
"What a pleasure visiting Pumula! The website pictures do not do justice to its charm, and dont show the rolling lawns around the guest cottages, or really explain the lovely clubhouse for visitors. And no-one mentioned the lovely lakes that we saw from our bedroom and patio. There was free firewood so we had roaring log fires outdoors every night as we watched the stars. <br/>The cottage was well equipped, with the addition of fresh farm eggs and milk, and if we had wanted to, we could have picked vegetables from the garden. <br/>Horses cropped the grass, and there were cows on the hillside. <br/><br/>Our hosts were friendly and helpful, and the cottage was decorated in true African handcraft style - attractive and ecologically sound. We didnt ride horses or do any of the numerous activities available for guests, but we just loved the place. Cant wait to visit again."
"The attitude of the owners was amazing nothing was too much trouble and they really paid attention to the little things that made us feel special i.e. milk eggs wonderful activities for the kids etc. <br/><br/>Although I think the rate was probably market related it is unfortunate that at R1600 a night for the unit we would not be able to afford that for an extended period of time. We would love to book a mid week. <br/><br/>We were referred to pumela by friends that had stayed there before and were not disappointed at all. Thank you for a lovely stay, we wish the farm much success."
