Sonklip Overnight Accommodation

Sonklip Overnight Accommodation is ideally positioned approximately halfway between the Cape and Gauteng and will suit anyone wanting to spend some time off the beaten track in the tranquillity and vast open spaces of Gariep Dam.

Sonklip offers affordable overnight accommodation two well-equipped rooms. One room consist of a double and two single beds and the second room of a double and a single bed. Each room has an en-suite bathroom with shower only. There is a bar fridge in both rooms. The braai area has a TV and a microwave for the use of both rooms. A lock-up garage is available. Unfortunately we serve no meals.

There are many activities to be enjoyed within the area from hiking and cycling trails, fresh water fishing, sailing, gliding, yachting and fish breeding stations. An unforgettable visit to the dam wall can be arranged. A warm friendly welcome awaits you with true Free State hospitality.

"The greeting on arrival was very pleasant, all COVID protocols were adhered to (face masks, temperatures, greetings protocols) so feel safe and welcome. The room had all needed facilities, was well appointed and had a very comfortable bed. A large communal area was available with Gymn equipment and TV. A lock-up garage housed my vehicle. I highly recommend Sonklip and the Van Niekerk's."

"Self catering is a bit of a stretch as all we access to was the microwave kettle and fridge. But that was a small concern. There is an indoor braai...so if I was more organised......One enters through the garage but don't let this put you off. The room is perfect and the electric blankets made it cozy. There is a large and in winter freezing cold common area. Hence the need to braai. DSTV is available and box office works. All on all a great half way stop for the N1."

"Lieflik en gerieflike woonstelletjie wat baie netjies is. Die gasvryheid van die eienaar kan nie genoeg beklemtoon word nie van die oomblik dat ons daar gearriveer het het sy ons tuis laat voel. Dit het die gevoel by ons gelaat dat ons haar al jare ken. Die toesluit motorhuis was 'n pluspunt vir ons gewees. Ek sal enigeen aanbeveel om daar tuis te gaan."

"My family of 5 stayed overnight at Sonklip on our way to the Eastern Cape and really enjoyed the accommodation we were given. Being on a budget meant we were glad to be able to all sleep in the same room for the night. This might sound cramped but the room was spacious and well laid out with 2 single beds on each end and a double bed in the middle. The common area was also comfortable and included a DStv-connected TV and eating and food preparation area. The best part of the whole stay was the wonderful Gariep Dam area which we found incredibly beautiful. I look forward to returning to Gariep Dam for a longer stay and would happily stay again at Sonklip."

"When we arrived, everything was ready as planned and when asking for breakfast, which I did not arrange in advance, it was organised in a jiffy. We slept very well in the comfortable "Vuurklip" and "Rooiklip" rooms. Very neat, clean and comfortable. Overall experience: Very pleased."
