Welcome to big skies, spectacular sunsets, starry nights, pure air, and traditional Karoo hospitality. Southford is a picturesque farm situated on the banks of the Orange River close to the N1, between Gariep Dam and Colesberg. Our unique guest house offers a relaxed atmosphere, ideal for a stopover or family getaway in the Karoo.
Situated on a scenic sheep and horse stud farm on the banks of the Orange River, our two spacious, charmingly decorated private family suites each feature two large bedrooms, sleeping up to five guests in comfort. Each unit consists of a main double bedroom and a second room with three single beds. All beds are fitted with fresh, high-quality linen and electric blankets, and fans in summer. The lounge area is equipped with DStv and a fireplace, and each unit also features a farm-style kitchen and barbecue facilities for self-catering.
The units are set in a tranquil and shady garden overlooking the horse paddocks, and activities include bird watching, fly-fishing and walks along the tree-lined paddocks.
"It was a pleasure to stay at the stud farm and will definitely be back"
"We really enjoyed our stay at on the farm. When we arrived the heaters were on in the house, the fireplace was packed and we could just light it. Kathy brought our food in lovely silver platters and the table was set beautifully. The beds are great and everything was super clean. The next morning the table was set again and breakfast was made in the kitchen and served to us. Just amazing service at the price. Thx Kathy."
"Ons het oppad terug van vakansie daar oornag. Heerlike aand ete gehad. (Bespreking net misleidend. Was onder die indruk aand ete is ingesluit. Al Moes ons bt vir dit was dit Nogsteeds die moeite werd) Rustig omgewing"
"Kathy and David are wonderful owners and very proud of their cottage. Whilst the interior is pleasant, the exterior is a little shabby and not inviting. We were disappointed that the bathroom did not offer a shower, whist the other suite had two showers. The rooms are comfortable and clean for a short stay; I would not recommend more than a night in the area as there is very little to do. David was very kind in assisting in changing our flat tyre ... very grateful!!"
"The term cottage is a bit misleading. A cottage by definition is a small dwelling or small country residence (Concise Oxford Dictionary). The two cottages' advertised are actually a large old farm house split into 2 sections. A farmhouse stay would thus be a more accurate description.Despite the above the accommodation was well appointed and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Southford Farm. Beautiful big trees and well kept lawns and lovely to walk among the stud horses in the paddocks."
"My wife and I had a wonderful stopover at Southford Cottage. A delightful meal in the evening, even a fire laid and ready (it was a cool evening) and such a warm feeling about the whole place with paintings by Kathy on the wall. Kathy and her husband are most hospitable people and made our stay the cherry on the top of a great coastal holiday before our return to Joburg."
"Spacious, neat accommodation, welcoming hosts and a lovely setting made for a excellent stop between Cape Town and Johannesburg. We'll definitely be back."
"It was great! Comfortable rooms in a large house with a lovely garden! Would definitely return."
"Thank you David and Kathleen. We had an amazing stayover on the farm. The children really enjoyed the experience."
"Superb stopover and delicious meals."
