• "Comfortable but not what you would expect"

  "We stayed in the porcupine suite for one night en route to Johannesburg. We made the choice based on the photos uploaded of the various suites. Unfortunately, these photos are extremely misleading. The suites are appointed as indicated in the photos however the rooms are quite dark and the floor is cold and appears to be varnished concrete. Further, the shower is part of the bath and there was very little hot water (not enough for two people to shower). The guest house has no view of the dam. The bed was however comfortable and the staff friendly. Good for a one night stay but pricey considering."

  "We arrived and were merely given a set of keys by the cleaning lady. Our room had no light bulbs or toilet paper- there was nobody at reception to assist the entire 24 hours that we stated there. The phone number listed does not exist. The room was full of cockroaches.Not impressed."

  "We stopped here on our way to Cape Town and again on the way back to Joburg. The rooms are lovely; the evening meals generous and restaurant quality; great breakfast and friendly service. We stayed at another hotel in Gariep last time we drove. Only downside here is you don't have the views of the dam but value for money and attention to detail certainly make up for it. Will stay at Stoneridge again on our next trip."

  "We only have good things to say about our stopover at Stoneridge. A warm and friendly welcome from Leeanne, very comfortable room and a delicious supper. Our only regret is that we said no to breakfast - it smelt and looked delicious! Leeanne also went out of her way by sending on information regarding a historical site that we had enquired about. Highly recommended for more than an ever night stay as well. For those traveling with dogs, it is pet-friendly too."

  "My wife and decided I to drive to Pretoria to attend a wedding. On our way back to Cape Town, we stayed for the night at Stoneridge Guesthouse. From the time we made the booking, we were impressed. We told Leanne that we did not eat meat, eggs, dairy, sugar, anything with preservatives, refined flour, nor anything fried in oil. That does not make us the easiest people to cater for. Leanne came back to us with a ‘not a problem’ The directions were spot-on; Leanne met us at the gate and showed us to our room – The perfect hostess. I read some of the other reviews. They all comment on the attention to detail because that is one of the impressions that you leave Stoneridge with. It was not just the room, it had everything you could possibly want, it was everything; the sherry we sipped as the sun was going down, the immaculate garden, the fire in the dining area, the beautiful view, the comfortable ambiance and all the little things that make a stay so enjoyable. We were very pleasantly surprised with the lovely meal that we enjoyed. The chef’s interpretation of our dietary requirements could not have been better. Our red wine was served at the right temperature and we finished our glasses in front of the fire. Leanne was friendly and attentive and never overpowering. Stoneridge was the perfect half way stop on the way down to Cape Town."

  "The guest house is a beautifully appointed and decorated oasis above the village of Gariep, with stunning Karoo views and a short drive from the dam and nature reserve. Rooms are first class and the food was excellent. We were sorry to stay only one night."

  "We enjoyed our stay at Stoneridge very much and everything was perfect. The guest house is located in a quiet street with no passing traffic but is still easy to find. The Gariep dam was visible from our room which was decorated tastefully with a lot of thoughtful elements. The hostess was friendly, helpful and attentive and made us feel welcome and at home from the very second we arrived. We will most certainly book our stay at Stoneridge for any future visits to the area. A must see."

The room, attention to detail, hospitality and general welcoming approach by Leanne and the staff needs to be experienced in person.   "The welcome was friendly. Aubrey, the chef, could do well in any classy Gauteng restaurant with his dinner and breakfast. The room had nice touches. The guest house is convenient to the Gariep Dam wall and various view points. I'd certainly stay there again."
